Seniors The Rangers nominated three senior divisions last year - 1st, 2nd and 5th. 1ST DIVISION had a marked improvement on recent seasons just failing to reach the semi-finals by 5 points. This year included a rare outright victory over Gympie in a thrilling finish. Two close losses to Tewantin/Noosa and Nambour proved crucial in our battle for a semi final berth. Some outstanding performances throughout with Andrew Smith (438), Jeremy Schultz (436 & 18 catches) batting well with Mike Del Forno 29 wickets (won the Sunshine Coast Cricket Association award for most wickets in 1st Division), Mike Cran & Aaron De Battista 26 wickets each performing with the ball. Skipper Murray Elks held the side together throughout the season ably assisted by Coach Tim Clementson. Some promising juniors coming through augurs well for next season with Matt Shaw, Andrew Robertson, Gary Bolton & Matt Moffett, to name a few, expected to do well. 2ND DIVISION had a mixed season under Craig Moffat's leadership. The side suffered from a lack of depth and players at certain times of the season. Managed some good wins but finished in the latter half of the competition. Those younger players will have learned from the experience. Shane Schultz and Craig were the batting main stays with Kirk Jeffs and Matt Del Forno showing potential at times. The side struggled with bowling depth with only two bowlers getting more than 10 wickets (Matt Shaw & Jamie Mead). 5TH DIVISION struggled with consistent numbers this year but there was some bright performances. John Baartz's hat trick in the local derby against Landsborough a highlight. Under 14 players Ashley Baartz and Anthony Del Forno, were an inspiration to the side with 'Tugga" Stephenson putting in a solid all round effort with both bat/ball and wicket keeping at times. Captain Greg "Jungle" Balkin tried hard to rally his side and played some useful knocks with the bat. Juniors The Rangers fielded 5 junior teams this year - under/10, under/12A, Under 14A, Under 14B and Under 16A. We had two sides make the semis, under 14A & 16A, with the under 14A winning the premiership going through the season undefeated. Both the u/14A & u/16A sides won the President's Cup which is a remarkable achievement from a club of this size. There was some notable performances by our Junior players with several making the various representative sides. See Trophy Performances 1999/2000 for full details.
