Plot:It's Jim Carvers first day back in uniform and all's not going well. First the poor guy is late, and then he finds himself assigned to traffic duty. Meanwhile back at the nick a strange new man arrives and asks PC's Garfield and Worrell where he can park. Garfield rather huffily points out that parking is reserved for police vehicles. The new guy turns out be DC Danny Glaze, an officer who met DC Liz Rawton whilst on a seminar and after hearing good things from her applied for a position at Sun Hill. He's not there five minutes before Jaaaack has him and Rod Skase out investigating the Baker brothers, who are suspected of being involved in a number of burglaries of restaurants and clubs. The case is made all the more sensitive when Danny greets the uniformed officers at the scene of another burglary. It turns out that Jim was working on the case with Rod before his transfer and Danny has effectively taken his place. Whilst Danny and Rod follow up their leads, following forensic evidence, Jim can't let it alone and almost gets himself and partner PC Ashton into trouble as he intends to solve the case, "Unfinished business," as he calls it. Eventually Jim and Danny get the results they want when Danny persuades the arrested Jerry Baker to confess that it was his brother Mark who savagely attacked a pub landlord and Jim manages to locate Marks' whereabouts. At the end of the day Jim and Danny are formerly introduced, and its seems that Jim doesn't bear a grudge and is resigned to his fate in uniform.
Watch For:Danny's first scene has been nominated by several of our members as their favourite Danny Glaze moment and its easy to see why. Watch also for the scene near the end as Liz asks Rod if he'd care to accompany her and Danny for lunch. "No thanks I wouldn't want to get in the way" he replies slyly. "No you wont get in the way", she reassures him, "I wont even notice you there.". The Bottom Line: A great start for Danny, whose presence is really felt. The scene where he talks Jerry Baker into confessing is well handled as is his interplay with Jim. On a wider The Bill rated scale, this story marks the beginning of what turned out to be an excellent and well handled story arc for PC Carver, well worth viewing. |
