I was hoping to receive a letter by today's mail form you, but I presume that your little charge occupies much of your time. My health is good and I hope this will find you, and friends well. I find that by close application my eyes get quite tired. I have been answering Sister Mary Ann's and Lewis' letter and my eyes feel the effects. I presume that they will be weak for some time. Yesterday I attended the dedication of the Post Chapel. The building is 24 x 36, I believe. The Chaplain said that a detail of men form the 12th Michigan, 3rd Minn. 1 St. Del. Battery worked five weeks on it without swearing, with the exception of one instance and that he was not certain about but was afraid it was so, as the person cut his finger. T.O. Keeney was one of the workmen. The text preached was from 'I was glad when they said Let us go into the house of the Lord!'
After the other exercises the choir sang 'Rally Round the Flag, Boys' and the congregation joined in the chorus and made the air ring, I assure you. I am not certain whether Dr. Moody will leave or not, but he is almost as pleasant as a June morning so that everything goes merry as a marriage bell. We are having pleasant weather and it is several days since I first saw flowers this spring. That is I have seen persons carrying them. Duvall's Bluff is rather much tramped to find many flowers around here. Sula you ought to see me pet a little colored boy that the Dr. has taken.
He says he is going on four years old, but does not look large enough, although he is quite forward. I have taught him to spell 'boy' and to tell what state he lives in.
As I am in haste I close.
Respects to all.
