Your letters of Aug. 4th and Aug. 17th were received last Sabbath. I do not know where there will be a chance to send letters but presume that there will be in a few days. I received a letter form Ursula the same day and hastened to answer hers but understand that the mail from our regiment was not taken down in time to go on the boat. I am feeling quite anxious about her as she has not been feeling well but was better the day she wrote, the 15th of August.
My health is good. I am in the regimental hospital as nurse. Have been pretty busy part of the time but do not have much to do at present. Most of the patients seem to be gaining slowly now. For a spell it seemed rather gloomy hare as several have died since I have been here. I hope that it will soon be cooler which will have a tendency to improve the atmosphere I expect. Let us pray earnestly that the soldiers may be constrained to put their trust in God and repent of the sins so common among many.
In regards to going to Minnesota, you know best as to whether it is consistent for you to leave and as regards the length of time you stay. I presume that your company would be acceptable all winter or longer. Ursula seemed to feel rather despondent and wrote as though she would enjoy herself better in the valley. I wrote to here to do as she thought best about going.
She should have good nursing and I do hope that all her wants may be supplied. I feel anxious as within a short time I expect she will be a mother. I pray God most earnestly for her. The book that you sent was received for which please accept my thanks. There are good facilities for public worship here as there is preaching in two churches here and perhaps more although I do not know of more. I have attended the last two Sabbaths, services by the chaplains of one of the regts. (I believe he is.) We have some books in the hospital that are very good reading and I hope will do good. I received letters from Mary Ann and Emily. Hope to get time to answer soon. I write with pencil as it is more convenient. Hope this will find you well and enjoying yourself.
Your affectionate son,
Levi Emery
