2001 Members Handbook

Welcome to the club

On behalf of the club and committee, I welcome back past players and invite new players to participate in a great game at a great club.

The Glenmore Bulls AFC was formed in 1973 and has achieved a long and successful history. As one of the foundation clubs in the CAFL it has worked long and hard for the benefit of football in Central Queensland and our own success.

After some hard times the club has achieved a re-birth in the past 12-18 months. This process will continue over the next 12 months. Our aim is to improve player numbers, improve the skills of players, coaches and administrators, to build a strong family atmosphere and a successful and varied social calendar to provide further involvement for members and families.

We are also in the process of updating the clubs development plan with the view to commence significant upgrades to the facilities at Stenlake Park with aim of fulfilling our role as the custodians of the headquarters for football in Central Queensland.

I'm sure you will enjoy your involvement with the Glenmore Bulls in 2001

Auskick

Auskick is a skills development program involving skills training sessions and modified no contact games each Saturday between 9:00am and 10:00pm.

Each week a skills session of approximately 1 hour is conducted followed by a half hour game where the skills taught are put into action in a fun game situation. No results are kept in these games as everyone is a winner with Auskick.

The programme is targeted at 5 to 9 year olds. Motor skills are developed through the structured programme with fun being the priority.

Similar programmes run interstate have shown remarkable results in the areas of motor skills development, increased confidence, discipline and other socials skills. We believe the programme is the ideal introduction to sport for all young children, both boys and girls.

Auskick is part of the successful Aussie Sports Scheme.

Assistance from parents

The club asks that wherever possible parents assist in the day to day running of the club. Team posters will be set up for canteen duty, clean up duty, ground duty and major event support. As well, working bees will be conducted from time to time.

Rosters will be set up in such a way that teams will be asked to assist on probably three major occasions throughout the season, hence your individual participation may only be one or two times during the whole season. It is a small contribution but cumulatively it greatly assists the effective operation of the club and does not mean a small group of people have to do everything around the club.

We ask that you readily assist when called upon to do so.

Also please remember to phone the coach if your child is unable to play on Saturday.

Additionally all teams require team managers, runners, timekeepers, boundary umpires, goal umpires and other help. If you are able to assist please volunteer yourself.

There are a number of other areas in which the club can always use assistance, if you can help then please contact a coach or committee member.

Clothing requirements

Note that the requirements below do not apply to Auskick. Runners, shorts and T-shirts are sufficient for this programme.

Football jumpers are provided by the club. The colours are brown and gold.

Boots. No metal tags (stops), only plastic tags or plastic moulded soles.

Shorts  Brown. Available through the club at $5 per pair.

The aims and objectives of Aussie footy

Objectives

The major objective of the "Aussie Footy" program is provide an opportunity for all Primary School age children to play Australian Football in situation designed to maximise the acquisition and development of the basic skills of the game.

In addition, the aim is to provide a controlled environment in which

1. The players thoroughly enjoy their involvement.

2. The ideals of sportsmanship, self-discipline, mutual respect, honesty and comradeship are encouraged.

3. An atmosphere of friendly co-operation and competition exists.

4. All players are actively involved.

5. A minority of players are not permitted to dominate.

6. There is a minimal risk of injury.

7. The added attractiveness increases the participation level.

Children will benefit from sport if it is modified to suit levels of maturation and ability. If the emphasis on winning is reduced, all children will benefit from their sporting experiences and continue to regard sport as a pleasurable activity.

Optimum development of skills

Modified rules creates an environment where:

1. Learning is enhanced by teaching skills progressively when the child is ready. The rules are also structured to match the skills development of average children.

2. Performance is improved (forcing children beyond their abilities may create stress).

3. Aims towards skills development for all, not just the gifted few.

It is playing the game that matters, not whether you win or lose.

Equal opportunities

Modified rules creates games that can:

1. Provide a much healthier "co-operative" sporting climate.

2. Ensure that the same child does not sit on the bench week after week.

3. Reduce the dangers of over-specialisation at too early an age.

Modified sport for children prevents domination by a minority at the expense of the majority. Modified sport makes it possible to equalise opportunities for all in a variety of situations.

Non-competitive

The under 10's to 12's age groups play in a round robin draw. The "competition" though is non-competitive. Their is no table and there are no finals in the competition. This reduces the pressure on the coach to look at only winning combinations, they can accordingly take time to ensure that all children are given an equal opportunity.

The teams are 15 a side with unlimited reserves, in other words all children can get an opportunity to play. There are no children left out of the team completely.

Position rotation is required of the coaches. Children should be given the opportunity to play in all positions on the ground.

Longer involvement in sport

Modification with good coaching and teaching can:

1. Raise the likelihood of continued involvement because of an emphasis on fun and enjoyment.

2. Provide encouragement for the late maturing child to begin and continue in sport.

3. Protect the child from unrealistic adult expectations.

If the children enjoy the game, they will continue unless they are made to feel like a failure.

Sensible coaches aim to match expectations with individual capabilities.

The aims and objectives of Australian Football U-13 to U-17

Objectives

These are the premiership grades. It is the clubs objective to be as competitive as is reasonably possible.

Team selection

Selection of teams is based on training attendance and on-field performance. Teams are based on 18 on-field players with 4 reserves. Ideally a squad of around 24 players is required to field a full strength team.

This may mean players of lesser ability do not play as much as higher ability players. However, as much rotation as possible will occur to enable all players to get a game. This rotation will not however be done to the detriment of the teams ability to be competitive.

Winning, but not at all costs

The club has a responsibility to the better players to make each match as competitive as possible. This it will endeavour to do within the bounds of good sportsmanship and clean play.

Rules

The games is played as per NAFC rules

Players code of conduct

·        Play by the rules.

·        Never argue with an official. If you disagree, have your captain, coach or manager approach the official during break or after the competition.

·        Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted in any sport.

·        Work equally hard for yourself and/or your team. Your teams performance will benefit and so will you.

·        Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another player.

·        Co-operate with your coach, team mates and opponents. Without them there would not be a competition.

Spectators code of conduct

·        Applaud good performances and efforts from each team. Congratulate all participants upon their performance.

·        Respect the officials decisions. If there is a disagreement follow the appropriate procedure in order to question the decision.

·        Show respect for your teams opponents. Without them there would be no game.

·        Encourage players to follow the rules and the officials decisions

·        Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour, by not using foul language, harassing players coaches or officials

Club History

The club was originally established in 1972 and was known as the Wandal Bulls, wearing the club colours of plain blue. Games were held at Jardine Park, but during this year no games were played for premiership points.

The official competition started in 1973 with Wandal changing their colours to maroon and gold. Our first premiership came in 1976. More changes occurred in 1977 with our colours now becoming maroon and gold and the training venue was now the Rockhampton Cricket Ground. We also won premierships in 1977, 1978 and 1981. In 1982 the club changed clours to brown and gold.

After a lot of hard work by some dedicated members, Stenlake Park became the home ground of the Wandal Bulls in 1983. The current change rooms were completed in 1985. Further premierships followed in the years 1988, 1989 and 1990.

In the year 1982 the CAFL commenced the reserve grade competition and Wandal was able to field a side. Since then we have won premierships in the years 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992 and 1994.

Through efforts of one club member, our junior teams were originally formed in 1974. Since that time, the number of teams have grown and have been the breeding ground for some excellent footballers coming through the club.

Our most recent change came in 1995 when the club was renamed the Glenmore Bulls.
