The Cathedral Church of Saints Peter and Paul was started on September 9, 1907 and took 83 years to finish. Considering that were able to use power cranes, pneumatic air chisels and other 20th century tools, it took much less time than the hundreds of years it used to take to build the Great Cathedrals of Europe. But it is the sixth largest Gothic Cathedral in the world and quite a sight. Not bad for our continent.

I have chosen this example first because I have many vidcaps of the construction, the unique stained glass windows, some of the gargoyles that were designed for this work, and shots of the interior.

The Great Cathedrals of Europe, although built essentially the same way, took about the same number of years to finish, but I have not been able to get as many photos as I have for this one. So enjoy these pictures and history.

I have sections for:

I have also added a page with some fine examples of the great Gothic Cathedrals in France, along with some pictures of the great Cathedrals and Monastaries that can be found in other countries. CLICK HERE to see them
