The Last Word (1994)Writer's Comment: [To Granger, November, 1994: In writing your final words for this book, I would like any comments you may wish to make in response to the following question. The theory known as Gaia (Lovelock and Margulis) establishes by evidence that the planet has the capacity to operate as a living being, taking care of itself much better than we know how. We will not, however, release our death-grip on some strongly established, vested interests. And we continue our drive to conquer and rule and at times abuse the resources of nature; thereby we continue to sacrifice the future of our children. Does homo sapiens carry special protection, or a preferred position as a species, or do we take our chances with all other forms of physical life?] Granger: (12 November, 1994): Yes, this is Granger writing. We were having some problems but they have been cleared away. We are writing at the higher frequency, directly to your mind. This is much better for us; we can fine tune the exact wording we would like. Now we need to get down to the message we want to write as "The Last Word" for the book. We know that you are anxious to get it to a finished state and we can help with that. In response to your question, we see other unanswered questions lurking just behind the one you have asked. We may, therefore, make some diversions to answer those questions. The sixteen years that have elapsed since the material already given do not change anything we have written. But we need to back up just a little, since it is now 1994, ...close to 1995. The world is a rapidly changing place now. It has picked up a faster beat, and we must all step to the new drummer. There is no such thing as fate; we established that previously. There is something you may refer to as fortuity; we would simply call it chance or luck, ...whatever. It has no particular onerous or other purpose in the physical universe. It is the result of the laws of nature working through the universe. There is no way that God, or The Almighty, or any other source of power is at work directing the physical universe. The universe will continue to work out through its own system of evolution or evolvement. The same laws that work in the nucleus of an atom work in the galaxies. We do not see any intent to bend or distort the laws of nature on the part of any High Power or from God. The universe will continue to function along the patterns it is set to follow. The four fundamental laws of the physical universe are the controlling "will" of the universe, if you like to think of it that way. Laws are the pattern of control in the physical universe. [The four fundamental laws of the universe are those of: gravity, electromagnetism. the weak force, and the strong force. ] As to the fate of the earth, we see no reason to assume that its future is exposed to any great danger except from within the confines of its own systems. Man remains the greatest threat to the earth. He needs to get himself (not herself) under control. Man is too willing to stick out his neck, and the neck of nature, ...and yes, of his children as well. Nature is being pushed beyond the limits of its capacity to take care of itself. You are quite correct to assume that when lift alone nature is able to heal and restore itself. But it cannot always do that in the face of the pressures it is being required to endure because of the excesses being imposed on it by humans. We do not want to sound alarms from here. Plenty of warnings exist within the earth's own systems that the biosphere is in danger. We just want to emphasize that there is time to recover if the earth-systems are given an opportunity to return to their normal functions. But you must be aware! No God, no Universal Power, is about to interfere if man, of his own free will chooses to continue to use excessive force to extract the last remaining vestiges of life from the earth's systems. Whatever man removes from the systems of nature must be replaced in some way. Nature's own systems have the capacity to replace much of what is removed but they have very specific limits, and one great limiting factor: the time-frame in which nature works. Keep in mind that animal life has taken millions of years to evolve in the earth. Resources in the earth may require billions of years to be replaced. You cannot just sit out on the balcony after breakfast and wait for nature to refill the empty spaces or resources. The human race is free to self-destruct if it so chooses. Have no doubt about that. It could disappear from the earth and be long forgotten before nature could replace all its resources and balance its systems again. We do not want to give the impression that we sit in judgement of the activities and struggles of races and people around the earth. Once, we took part in those struggles. We understand the nature of people in the earth. But we must make a point here. God will not move in to save the human race any more than to save any other species on the earth. It is well to remember that many thousands, yes millions, of species have gone from the earth's systems. Man is an animal, first and foremost, in the earth's systems. Just like any other animal, he will survive so long as he complies with the requirements for sustaining life. But he is not invincible; he has no special protection; he must take his chances in the planet's functions. We do not say this in any way as a threat; we see no dark and ominous clouds on the horizon. But you must recognize that the earth's systems have limits, and the human race can push beyond those limits now with very little effort. It is indeed time to stop, to look, and to listen! The human mind is quite capable of resolving its problems when it desires to make the effort. But God does not hand out security blankets. Be clear in your mind, there is no almighty force about to enter the scene to rescue the human race in the earth if you should choose out of a free mind to overload and crash all systems of nature. The choice must be with the human race in the earth. Either you will learn to live and work together or eventually the human species as we see it today will revert to some lower standard of survival. You must accept the conditions in the earth; face the problems; and take the action required. I have no better answer than you have. There are no pots of gold at the end of any rainbows. Let us now think our way through the aspect of human beings in the earth as personalities of the High-soul. Human beings are a hybrid of animal life containing the spiritual nature of the personality sent into each life in the earth. Man has a soul .or man is a soul, depending on where you stand. I see from here, the soul aspect of human beings in the earth, but when I lived in the earth, as you do now, I observed the very physical aspects of the animal in the earth. We see the spirit, the personality, the nature of that personality as it exists and will continue to exist after spending a short period of time in the physical earth to gain certain experiences. We need to go back to the nature of a free mind in a physical body to get a clear picture of the spiritual aspect in the physical life. A free mind is not easy to comprehend in an environment subject to inherited genes and influenced by surrounding conditions usually referred to as nurture. Many students of psychology will, in fact, say human beings cannot have a freedom of choice because of the many controlling factors. We must not, however, overlook the spiritual influence that enters through the very real personality of the High-soul. This area of influence makes it difficult to establish a common ground with the psychologist who will not recognize the spiritual component as a real aspect of the person. It is of the same nature as we encounter when we from "over here" try to influence someone in the physical life who insists that we cannot possible assert any real and direct influence because we are "dead people." Experiences gained in the physical life are of vital use and value for all time in the life that will foIlow. I understand that many feel they would rather just be happy than have real freedom of choice. "Let my genes and the nurture that surrounds me give me happiness and I will withdraw from being free," so they say. Understand, the young falcon prefers not to leave it nest to fly. But once it has felt the freedom of flight, and learned to soar and dive, it could never again be confined to the comforts of the nest. From what we have presented here, in this book, we wish only that you too wiIl think deeper, will fly higher, will take some personal risks, and wiIl learn to soar. I want to reassure you, the experiences you gain from a free and open life on earth wiIl give you many benefits in the life that follows. Now we must leave you. We retire through the quiet door by which we entered here so many times before. |
