The Personality

(Granger): There are many pathways through any lifetime. There are any number of ways of achieving the purpose of the soul. Each individual has his or her own reason for having chosen the pathway through this lifetime. We must allow each to seek out and follow his or her own star, so to speak. Do not accept the idea that some sage is better equipped to tell you what your purpose is, or should be. You must always follow your own inner source of light. If you allow your inner source of light to direct the path you follow, rest assured you will come out very well in the end of your life. Many of the goals for which people strive are of very little value in the end. Do not be influenced by the path you see others taking. It may, or may not, be of value to you.

Each personality has a soul or, more correctly, a High-soul. The personality is united in its objectives with the High-soul. The difference is that the High-soul remains above the daily tasks. It does not enter into the physical universe. It is very closely united with a Higher Consciousness. That Higher Consciousness is not God, but it is at a higher level, above that of High-souls. There are levels above that, you may be sure, but we do not need to explore those levels. Better we get to understand who we are, and why we are here.

The High-soul is the source of one's life; the purpose of life is contained within that soul. Never will the High-soul forsake its chosen purpose, or the personality it has created. No where in the universe is there any other force that has the ability to separate a personality from its source. By "personality", as used here, we mean the individual who will be, or has been, born into life on earth. The personality is created out of the High-soul, and is of the essence of spirit, that is, it is created out of spiritual material. It is not a physical thing at all, although it will live in a physical body. The body is created in accordance with physical laws of evolution, but the personality, which will live in the body, is a separate entity, and has the ability to exist and function separately from the body. Do not become confused with the ideas of evolution. They are of a physical set of laws. These concepts need some revisions and updates, to be sure, but they are all related to physical development. We want to keep the two things separated. There would have been less anxiety in the world over evolution if this concept had been better understood.

The entry of the personality into the body is a unique phenomenon. A child does not suddenly get a personality. The child is prepared by the mother in a natural way for the entry of the personality. The brain must be developed to a certain level before this process can start; it does not start at the same point in all persons. There are other factors involved here. For instance, the personality may be reluctant to enter the physical life. On the other hand, it may be ready and willing, and at least think it is able to cope with physical life.

The High-soul directs the entry of the personality, and provides energy and regeneration of life to the new person following birth. Many people retain this close connection with the soul through the entire lifetime. The child is not alone. The child is being guided through the consciousness of the High-soul, and is aware of the guidance in his or her own way and level of awareness. Many things may, of course, be done to assist this development. No two children will develop in the same way; each has his or her own timetable built in. The reason for that inner schedule is located in the deep need of the spirit to move the consciousness toward certain goals. There are goals in life, even at this early age.

The development of a child is, of course, a complex process and needs some help to achieve the greater benefits. The best way for parents to relate to the child is through love and genuine concern for his or her welfare. No need to get hung up here on someone else's rules. Just think to oneself: Am I doing this or that out of a real concern for this child, or is there some other motivation at work here? Am I doing it, really, out of personal pride? ...out of anger? ...because I am tired? ...or for some other reason? The truth will be self-revealing if honesty is used in asking the question.

Parents should not decide arbitrarily that the child must be taught this first and that second. Let the child display his or her own interests, and let those interests develop at the natural and normal speed. Support the effort by all means, but do not create an artificial program and time-table for the learning process. Allow the personality to develop its own characteristics; do not try to influence or make it into some other mould. Guide the course of development, but do not try to program it. Do not program children to think, look, and act the same. They each have chosen a program of development for life, and each will achieve that development if allowed to follow that choice. Remember, each child is unique; never compare one child with another. No two people are intended to be alike. Do not try to make them all rich, handsome, and famous.
