WELCOME!!!

If you are in search of daycare that treats your child warmly and with a sense of humor; provides your child with consistency and safety in an environment more like home; a provider who will enjoy your child's uniqueness, will read to your chil, will play with your child, feeds him/her well and welcomes you to check in on your child anytime; a provider who is always open to suggestions from you, the parents-look no further-you have arrived.

Introduction

Things you should know about my daycare home:

1.  Low volume-I will only have up to 6 children in my care at any one time, during daycare hours.  This insures better quality of daycare than higher volume centers mainly for these reasons:

Your child is safer, due to closer supervison.
Your child may feel more confident because of the individual attention he/she receives.
Your child will be in an environment less clinical and more like home.

2.  Schedule-I adhere to a schedule (not rigidly, but consistently).  I believe that children need consistency to become well-rounded, self confident individuals.  (Schedule following introduction)

3.  Meals-I participate a state sponsored food program.
(Association for Child Development 1-800-234-3287)
They visit my home quartely and inspect what I feed the children in
my care.  I am required to fee your child food from every food group plus fluid milk at every meal, if your child has special requirments, please let me know, I will be as accommodating as possible.  All meal times are as follows:

Breakfast - 7:30-9:00 AM
Morning Snack - 10:30-10:45 AM
Lunch - 12:15-12:45 PM
Afternoon Snack - 3:30-4:15 PM
Supper - 6:00-6:30 PM
Eve Snack - 8:00-8:30 PM

4.  Quiet time/nap time-In general we nap immediately following lunch.  If children need to nap at other times that is fine also.  If your child is here at night, bedtime is at 9 PM.

5.  Discipline-None of the following disciplinary methods following will be used in my home (Rule R 400.1804 Discipline and Child Handling; per the guidelines set forth by the State of Michigan, Dept. of Consumer and Industry Handbook,
Licensing Rules for Family and Daycare Homes.)

No physical force or any other form of corporal punishment including spanking.
No restricting a child's movement by binding or tying him or her.
No using mental or emotional cruelty as a means to discipline a child.
No withholding necessary food, rest or toilet use.
No confining a child in an area such as a closet or locked room.
Moderate Restraint may be used to prevent a child from harming themselves or other, or to allow a child to gain control of him or herself.  If disruptive behavior occurs, first warning-i.e, "we do not hit our friends" with eye contact.  Second warning-"we do not hit our friends", with distraction to another activity.  Third warning-time apart from group and discussing behavior if age permits.  Time apart will only last one minute per age.

6.  Field Trips-occasionally we take a child or two with us to the store, we assume permission is not required by parents.  Excursions that will take a large part of the day or where the destination is farther than 15 miles away will be discussed with you.  If consent is given, I will present a form that will require one signature from one parent.  (An age appropriate child restraint will be used in my vehicle at all times.)

7.  Ilness-if your child shows signs of illness in my home (such as a temperature over 101degrees, vomiting, rash, etc.), I will inform you immediately, and you may be required to pick up your child.  Each illness will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.  I will also inform you if my child is sick or of the other children showing signs of illness, so you may have the option whether you would like to bring your child or not.  I may at times require a doctor's note for your child to return, depending on the illness.

8.  Medication-will only be administered if written consent is given from at least one of the parents.  I will supply the form.

9.  Emergencies-in the case of an emergency I will call someone to watch your child while I ride with the injured child to the hospital.  If the child is injured, depending on the gravity of the situation-
Not life threatening - I will call one parent to inform him/her of what happened and where I will be taking their child.
Life threatening - You will be called as soon as possible by either me or my emergency person.  We wil be riding by ambulance to the hospital.

I am certified in CPR and First Aid.

10.  Back up daycare-this is very important to me.  I will in most cases give two weeks notice if time off is needed.  But I would hate for you to be angry with me should a situation arise that I have no control over and you have no one to watch your child.  Please inform me when you have found such a person.
