A Map of the Planet Aquarius
Geography of the Planet
Aquarius is a watery planet, roughly 3/5 ocean and the land is split into individual island countries and Libra dominates being the size of the other 4 main countries combined. One of the islands however is divided into two countries, Castor and Pollux in the far north.
Galatea - The second largest country with a regional capital of Europa upon the coastline of the Airian Sea. Galatea is the warmest and driest country with a substantial steppe and desert area to the North West of Europa. There is one mountain range containing the highest peak in Aquarius; Andromeda at 3796m. To the south west lies the city of Naia, a higly important city due to vital shipping routes to Zephyrus.
Zephyrus -Zephyrus is the most southerly country however the climate is tempered by the effect of proximity to the Poles and is as such cooler than Galatea. There is one significant topographical feature, a small range of mountains, the Westerley Hills, containing the valuable amethyst resources. Zephyrus has only two notable urban areas, Aeolus in the East and Oceani in the West.
Castor and Pollux - Located in the far north, these two countries are very cold areas of tundra with coniferous forestry. Notus, the most northerly of all Aquarius' cities is the capital of Castor while Duo, in the centre of the Siberian tundra is the capital of Pollux. An isthmus of land connects Pollux to an archipelago providing its vital mythril mines.
Libra - The most important city by far on Libra is Mara, the capital of Aquarius lying at the foot of the Libran Alps. Libra has a varied climate with tundra in the north by the town of Favonius and the Dioscuri straits which connect to Pollux, and then in the south the hot Aquilean desert and steppe. The desert contains only one settlement, the well adapted city of Aquilo.
The river of Acqua runs as the lifeblood of Libra, tracing a long profile from its source in the Libran Alps directly through the country to its mouth by the city of Aqua in the south. The largest single body of water however is Lake Eos which marks the end of the Eon River. It was around this lake that Aurora, Libra's secondary city was built.
In addition to these four countries lie three clusters of islands affectionately known as the 'Ids' - the Nereids, Aquarid and Naid.
Economics
Galatea - arable and pastoral agriculture particularly in the rearing of cattle and the growth of crops suiting a Mediterranean climate such as vines and oranges. Also areas of fishing in the less polluted waters of the north. As per industry, there is rail building concentrated in the main centers and an important shipping and administrative area around Europa.
Zephyrus - primarily amethyst mining but some limited agriculture and forestry
Castor - due to harsh climes only forestry exists as a main activity
Pollux - like Castor, farming is difficult due to the climate. Pollux relies on its mythril mines and some forestry.
Libra - economic activity varies with geographical location. In the north there is some limited forestry however most is imported from Castor and Pollux. Fishing areas include the freshwater Aurora and coastal Aqua and Austral. As per agriculture, in the upland Alps pastoral farming exists rearing sheep and goats whereas on the plains arable crops suiting a temperate climate are grown. These crops include maize, grasses, barley, oats and oilseed rape as well as horse rearing to help with the labour.
Industry is centered around Tethys, Mara and Aurora with rail/ship building. Mara however is mainly dominated by tertiary activity. As the capital it contains the financial and administrative importances (hence employment) and traditionally acts as a centre for culture and the arts although the other main cities are developing artistic hubs of their own.
