Hello There,
Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Grace Djapri, the not so creative creator of this homepage.
I was born in Indonesia, but had my education in Singapore for a decade before currently pursuing my studies in the US.
Well, instead of the usual address, zodiac, birthdate, etc, I would like to share with you some interesting
moments of my life. Some of you may encounter the same incidents that I experienced. So here goes..
My Primary School Days
Many people may have forgotten their first day of school. But I still do.
I even remember the first day I stepped onto Singapore's soil. Frankly, I used to think that Singapore is a place
far, far away, and going there meant sitting in the plane for hours. The first time I came to Singapore for a vacation,
I ended up staying there for a month to take up tution classes.I dreaded taking the lessons, but they were essential
for me to pass entrance examinations to attend primary schools there. Of course, I failed many of them,
until the kind principal of Telok Kurau Primary School decided to take me in. I never regretted joining the school since then.
For one thing, I made many great friends there. After a decade, we are still friends. Of course things are rather different now.
Whenever we are relishing our primary school days, our conversation will usually start with,"Do you remember, when we were..."
For those of you who were with me during this innocent time, you know what I mean.
Then it was the environment of the school. Because the school's area is rather small, it gave students a sense of belonging
to the school. Everyone knew almost one another studying in the same level. Futhermore, almost everyone had his or her own role to
maintain the school. For example, the science club members would come to school in the morning, just to water the plants,
pull out nasty weeds and feed the rabbits, chickens, and fishes that they reared. Even when we were to graduate from school,
graduating classes had to paint a mural on a wall of the school. Therefore, although these students had left the school, their memory
will still linger in school. My Secondary School Days
I did not cry like many girls did on our last day in Telok Kurau Primary School. I did not cry because
the feelings I had were beyond words said and tears shed. The school had been my second home for 5 years. The teachers had been
my mentors, and having good friends was the best thing I ever had in life. But it was the time to move on, and I landed
myself in my Secondary school, Tanjong Katong Girls' School.
I was pretty excited about attending a new school. New teachers, new friends, new faces.TKGS is a huge and beautiful school.
Interestingly, this is also the place where I learnt about growing up.
Every level of my secondary school taught me something. In Secondary 1, I was appointed to be the class chairman.
I learnt that being a leader is a tough job. In Secondary 2, I passed the interview to become a school prefect. I learnt about the power of self confidence.
As I entered the prefectorial board, I learnt about teamwork. In Secondary 3, my academic results deteoriated. It was then I learnt about complacency.
In Secondary 4, I received the "Outstanding Service Award" from the school. From then on, I learnt that hard work do pay off. When you work hard enough,
people know that you have done your best. I also learnt about having a sense of accomplishment. Above all, I learnt about being mature.
Going to the US
Now that I am in the US, another phase of my life starts.New environment, new culture, new faces. I cannot tell you much about
life in college now. Certainly, more there will be challenges lying ahead in front of me, and I do hope to continue learning more about growing up.
