O'Neill yells out fa warning to Duncan, saving him from taking a bullet. They take chase until they get caught behind some pedestrian traffic. Later, O'Neill asks to meet Duncan at the gym to talk some issues. She is working out and suggests that he do the same since his physical is coming up soon. Finally, the masked man takes some hostages in a building and O'Neill and Duncan sneak into the building. Duncan apprehends the culprit confident that O'Neill is there to back him up. Afterward, Duncan is unable to find O'Neill. His boss informs him that Patty O'Neill was killed in a drug bust 12 years ago and her partner- blaming himself for her death- took his own life.

Commentary

This strong episode is also one of the most unique in the series. Max Gail does a great job with 22 minute character building and Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky and Hutch) handles directing this mini cop drama very well. It is easily defined and yet, could actually warrant second viewing surprises.
