Tonight, in our first episode of the year, a mysterious stranger gets help from a driver, and teh payoff is life saving...

Summary

Charlene picks up a hitchhiker on a rainy evening and the conversation quickly turns towards her personal life. Strangely, though, with every upsetting turn of the conversation, 'Charlie' sees an equally disturbing vision from the past in passing vehicles. She finally gets an a loud argument with the hitchhiker. She finally has a change of heart and she drives by a tragic car accident on the road. She recognizes the car as her own and approaches to see herself dead at the wheel. The hitchhiker calms her and tells her what she saw was might have happened, not what did happened. She looks back and the accident has disappeared. The hitchhiker says good-bye and Charlie asks her who she is. She replies 'look in the mirror in 30 years. That's who I am.'

Commentary

Kathy Baker gives a very convincing 'driving' job in this high concept 'vehicle.' Sometimes the symbolism is right in your face and leaves the viewer slightly insulted.
