family is a very big part of my life. i can't live without them, and even if i could, i wouldn't choose to!
before i go on, i should explain some korean lingo for u non-koreans. i'll type in all caps for this section so u FOBS can just skip it...
LISTED ARE A FEW KOREAN WORDS:
OPPA - THE TITLE A GIRL USES TO ADDRESS ANY OLDER BROTHER FIGURE
ok..the reason i listed those is that i prolly use those terms.
appa - my daddy...he's a very loveable man...in fact, i'd say he's the most charismatic man i know...who, unlike many korean men his age, is pretty much fluent in english. if u knew him, u'd begin to think that i'm not so ssullung after all. but his ssullung-ness is charming, i guess. he chats with me online lotsa times, which is really cute, i think...he's the reason for my belief in God...i'm lucky to have been born into a Christian family. he's a very good-looking man, which i know to be true not only cuz i think so, but because MANY women have told me so. it's almost sick when they tell that to me, but i'm more proud than anything else. he was in the US army for about 3 years...and could have gone really far...then i would be an officer's daughter. BUT..he had to quit. he's one of the most hard-working people i know...as well as the most generous.
eurus oppa - my oldest bro. he's supposed to be the responsible one...hehe. i feel bad tho, cuz i used to complain a lot...that he always had more privileges than i do...which is true to a certain extent. when he was my age, he had less privileges than i have now. but it's different now, right? i guess i'm pretty spoiled tho--prolly cuz i'm the only girl in the family. but i look up to this guy a lot...well...not a LOT. he's only a few inches taller than me. ok...i've just demonstrated my sullung-ness. ok...yeah. i DO look up to him a lot. especially as a Christian. his dream is to have a ministry thru music...his main instrument is the bass guitar. he played for the praise team at eastbay baptist church. n/e wayz, eurus oppa's the web developer for SDG webworks and he graduated from UC berkeley. he's currently working for solidworks in boston. so far away~
james oppa - he's a funny dude. i feel like he's oldest, sometimes...cuz he's sorta more koreanized than eurus oppa, in a way...and he has that whole "oppa" persona. (is that the right word? i'm all trying to sound smart, but i'm kinda bad at it...i have a very limited vocabulary) n/e wayz, he had a scary buddy icon...and i'd wish he would change it, but he wouldn't for the longest time. when i was on aim, it would be there..and it was so SCARY! and then he changed it to this cute lil anime girl. hahahahhaa. sooooooo funny. we don't talk all THAT much, but when we do, i totally feel comfortable w/him. he's in charge of the pc bang my family made in brownsville. the very FIRST pc bang! :)
lil bro hen - henry's so cute. all my friends r like..."u're lil bro is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!" so i say, "i know, i know." i mean..i know, already! g'ness! haha..j/p. n/e wayz, i love having a lil bro. he's not that much younger than me...only about a year, but iss all good. we were at jack in the crack once...and i insisted on paying...so i kinda pushed him out of the way and gave the cashier the money. so henry said, "u kno, nuna...u're only a year older than me. i don't hafta respect u." lol. i love you too, hen. :)
ella and louis - these two are the newest additions to our family. they're jindos...korean dogs, u kno? they're very cute...i named them after ella fitzgerald and louis armstrong...eurus oppa inspired me, cuz he's in LOVE with jazz. :) n/e wayz, even tho louis is a boy, he's a total wimp. ella's soooooooo much more mature. "GO GIRL!" n/e wayz, louis always bugs ella, so she finally got fed up and had a fight with him...louis ended up being all bloody and stuff...just goes to show...don't mess with girls. especially girls in my family..cuz we KNOW how to kik ur BUTTS! lol..j/p
halmuni - my grandmother is the funniest lady i know. i love her to pieces. she's like...70-something and still working hard. she's the backbone of our family...and our family bond couldn't be so strong without her. every morning, she wakes up extra early and walks to this big parking lot. there, she stretches and does her daily exercises. she walks really fast--it's hard for me to keep up with her sometimes. she also wakes up extra early to pray for all her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids everyday. she prays for hours just for all of us. but like i said, she's comedy. the ssullung-ness prolly branches from her, but she does the funniest stuff, sometimes. u just gotta sit down and watch her. don't get me wrong, i have the greatest respect for her. she's just really funny.
gomos - i have 3 gomos. they're all wonderful. they range from complete fob to somewhat fobby to twinkie (yellow on the outside, white on the inside). they're so loving and kind...one gomo in particular--mia gomo--i must truly thank...for being such a wonderful motherly figure to me...and for taking care of me...and for giving me someone to look up to as a person, as well as a Christian.
keun appa - (literally meaning big dad...big daddy! haha..j/p) this is my older uncle. he's a qt. seriously tho...he kept stealing his daughter's slippers (leopard print) so she finally just bought him a pair, which are bright red, by the way..and he loves them. :)
richard uncle - the younger uncle. i have memories of going out to dinner and stuff with richard uncle. he's not completely a twinkie, but he's not a fob either. he's a very all-around kinda guy...the youngest of his siblings.
kay auntie - richard uncle's wife...u wouldn't believe she's married with 3 kids. this lady is young-looking and very pretty. she's comedy too...
i have two cousins that live in korea right now: ji young unnie and ji bin oppa. they have two more sisters, who live in america: chi rim unnie and chi ri unnie.
moving down the line...
jennifer unnie - she's a very cute unnie. she always has stuff in her room that she can't wait to give away. u hafta be careful when u compliment something of hers. she'll insist u take it. (i like ur car, unnie!) i always remember her reading a lot. and a while ago, she let me borrow her 900 page book...and i finished it! wow...long...n/e wayz, she is one of the best ppl to talk to, really. i can talk to her for hours...(she's the one that bought her dad the slippers!) unfortunately, she always seems to be busy so i don't get to kick it with her that often, but when we ARE together...YIPPEEEEEEE
will - he's a cousin that i don't get to see very often cuz he lives in northern kali...he's really passionate about what he believes in, which i totally respect. i love calling him cuz he appreciates it so much when i do call. he doesn't hide his emotions, which is sorta unexpected when you look @ him...so he always tells me he loves me, which makes me feel like crying almost everytime. it never hurts to say those words~
ricky oppa - he's a very interesting fellow. hehe. i enjoy conversing with him, but it's on a different level. with oppa, it's kinda...mmm...well...educating myself. he's a really smart guy that knows a lot about politics, i guess...and what's going on, basically. he gets really fired up about stuff like that, which i think is totally awesome. i should be more like him...and less oblivious to what's going on in the world...
allie unnie - she's the most photogenic person i have ever met. she comes out like a glamour model in her DRIVER'S LICENSE, for crying out loud. n/e wayz, she is really pretty, too..but i'm saying...in her DRIVER'S LICENSE!!! dude...i'm jealous. lol
chris oppa - i have NEVER seen this guy angry. he's the sweetest guy and i'm sure everyone agrees with me about that. he plays bass guitar, piano, acoustic guitar. he's very talented. he led praise at union & LCC, but he's not there n/e more. a lot of ppl look up to chris oppa as a christian...and as a person. it's sucha small world though, cuz 2 of his roommates went to the same h.s. as i did. i didn't really know them personally, but it turns out one of them is going out with a friend of mine from that same school!
janet - my best friend. i love this girl to pieces. we're only 4 months apart, yet i feel this need to protect her like my younger sister. but then she totally acts way more mature than me. *shrug* not so much n/e more, but sometimes, we were asked if we're twins. which is silly. we may look SOMEWHAT alike, since we're cousins, but i don't even think we could pass for sisters. so how could we be TWINS?
jonathan, rachelle, steph - these three munchins are the youngest of the cousins. they're so cute...i remember when they were little babies...it seems like just yesterday.....ok i'll stop now. n/e wayz, they've grown a lot and it's hard to accept that fact. i think it's so cute when we all read together...i'll be lying on my bed, reading...and the kids come in and lie next to me...and we all read together... they always call me to borrow stuff, even when i tell them constantly that they can use whatever it is without asking. too cute. stephanie called me once to ask when i was coming home. cuz she missed me. so cute...
jenn - this is my second cousin who lives on the east coast. she's an awesome person. although i heard about her a lot, i didn't really meet her till late last year, when i heard a cd that she had made with some church friends. The Group is "God's Power Through Jesus Christ." The album is entitled, "on my knees." visit their website: GPJC! u can listen to little samplings of the tracks...but seriously..this girl is awesome. she's about my age...i'm barely older than her. she claims i cam her "pseudo-unnie." i can relate a lot to her, and i feel that she encourages me a lot in my walk with God. i'm also very grateful that she laughs at my jokes a lot...not a lot of ppl do that for me. :)
danny - actually, he doesn't really go by "danny." he goes by dan. but i call him danny. :) he also lives on the east coast. he's a total cutie. he cracks me up, too. he calls me "weenee nuna," which is very unusual, i must say. he's one of the most adorable lil boys...although he's not all that little. he's only a few years younger than me. *sigh* kids are growing up so fast these days...
