for all of you who don't know, my daddy is the coolest daddy EVER. i'm SO proud of him & of all his accomplishments.
first of all, my daddy was in the US army. not the korean army, but the US army. he was enlisted for 3 years. i guess that's not that long, but that's only cuz my mom made him quit.
ernest blake kim (that's my dad) came to america with not a penny in his pocket, just like a lot of other immigrants. he enlisted in the US army and had no problem graduating the top of his school, at AIT training. within 3 years, he got promoted twice--a task that is pretty rare.
his rank: E5. basically, this is a specialist 5, which is an equivalent to a sergeant. within THREE years, mind you. he registered for OCS, but my mom made him quit.
wow. my daddy is so AWESOME. :)
after the army, he's had various jobs in different fields. he started @ vons...owned his own deli (erny's best deli, as seen in the movie "dark man"), worked as a mechanic, and much much more. he's not just an average handyman either. he actually FIXES stuff..and then it WORKS. cool. my uncle told me that we're lucky...cuz my grandfather was in the FBI in korea...so our intelligence & way of thinking comes from him. cool.
of course, this isn't the only reason my daddy's so cool. but...after all he's accomplished, he never gloats or compares me to himself. the only reason he really says this stuff is to encourage me...to show me that i, too, can accomplish any task i put my mind & effort to. i'm so lucky to have a daddy like the one i do. he's the bestest. *grin*
in everything i do, he encourages me...pushes me along when i need some help. when i'm not feeling so hot, he shows concern...and makes sure--even from so far away--that i'm taken care of. even when he's not doing so well, he can always provide for me. emotionally, financially, spiritually...he guides me and helps me along the way. i can't believe i'm so lucky. so lucky to have such a great daddy.
