[Scene 1: Int.-café-late morning]
Kim: (V.O.)Every girl dreams of her prince… someone to love her, someone to
care for her, someone to rescue her… just like what they hear in
fairy tales… but life is not a fairy tale… like they say, life is too short
to waste your time on someone who doesn't deserve your love, and it's just
so sad when the right person won't be able to reach you because you're too
busy making the wrong person right for you.
Tsk… tsk… And so it goes… I met him…
In the Millennium café, on a late morning, Kim sits at her usual table,
attending to some paper works. Jay walks in from the counter and settles
at the seat adjacent to Kim. He starts to reach for a cigarette from his
pocket, lights it, and begins to puff.
Kim:
Could you stop that?!
Jay:
Stop what???
Kim:
That! Alam mong ayoko ng smoke!
Jay:
Well, s-o-r-ry, we're sitting in the S-m-o-king area! Therefore, there's
no stopping me!
Kim:
Well, as you see there are no other tables…
Jay:
Just your luck! Sorry ka na lang!
Kim:
When would you give that up??? Or will you ever give that up??!
Jay:
Not for you!
Kim:
Aaaaargh! Well… I hope your lungs burn as black as coal!
Jay:
(mockingly)
Well I hope your lungs burn as black as coal…
Kim gives him the evil eye, then attends back to her paper works and
chooses to simply ignore the obnoxious attitude of her dear friend.
The waiter walks in with the mug of coffee, places it on the table--in
front of Jay. Jay on the other hand, continues to puff his cigarette as
he heartwarmingly watches the girl beside him.
After a few moments, Victor--Kim's boyfriend--walks in. Jay spots him and
so moves to the seat to his left, while cursing beneath his breath.
Victor:
Oy! Jaime Lorenzo Agoncillo, Wuzzup pare!
Jay gets alarmed and ashamed of the sound of his real name…
Kim looks up, sees her boyfriend and gives a dreamy smile.
Jay:
Oy pare, walang ganyanan! "Jay" naman!
Victor settles himself on the seat Jay left for him.
Kim:
Hi "be".
Victor:
Hi "Beb!" Pare pahingi naman o!
Jay gets another stick of cigarette and hands it over to Vic. Kim
stares at Jay warningly. Jay shrugs his shoulders gesturing that she
tell that to Vic.
Kim:
"Be" please don't smoke…
Saying it in a malambing tone.
Jay begins to roll his eyes, glances at the person beside him with the
thought "ba't pa ba kelangan dumating 'to???" He remains silent, trying
to conceal that he's annoyed.
Victor:
Sorry "Beb", you know I can't... It's a hard habit to break!
Kim gives up and simply gives a quick pout…
Kim:
Sige na nga… … …
Umm… "Be" wala ka bang naaalala?
Victor puffs his smoke… then contemplates…
Victor:
Huh??? I have someone to meet later… and there's no one after that… I've
told the maids to do the laundry and change the sheets… I've done mom's
grocery for her… hmmmm…
Kim:
(in a disappointed note)
"Be"…
Victor:
Tomorrow pa naman un schedule ng car tune-up a… and---
Jay now gets further uneasy trying to control himself so as not to hit
his best friend on the nose.
Kim reaches for her bag then pulls out a nice little present.
Kim:
"Be"… happy anniversary…
Kim gives a smile and anticipates for her boyfriend's response, a kiss
perhaps, a hug, a present in return… or simply a "thank you" or any sign
of gratitude…
Victor:
Oh… yeah… sorry "beb" I forgot… Happy anniversary!
Victor puts out his smoke… and checks out the time on his watch
Kim gives a minute frown as she tries to hide how upset she really is.
However, no matter how hard she tries to conceal it, Jay sees it, he feels
it. As he stares at Kim, his eyes reflect the sorrow that he feels for her.
He wants to do something-- something to make her feel better, to make her
better, to tell her, but he knows that he's not in the right position. His
eyes says it all, if only Kim would look at them at than moment…
Unaware of what's going on within his friend, Victor gets ready to leave…
Victor:
Umm… "beb" could you… take care of our plane tickets for Puerto Gallera???
Ha? Keep this for me na din, I still have to meet up with someone. Bye "Beb".
Victor stands up and softly pats Kim on the cheek, then leaves
(exit to his right).
Kim gives an "ok" gesture, looks at the present that her boyfriend leaves her
to keep, then gives a sigh and struggles to keep herself composed.
Jay meets her gaze, and gives her a displeased look.
Kim:
What??? He's got a lot of things on his mind you know?
Kim manages to draw a smile… although, a weary one…
Jay:
Could you stop that?
Kim:
Stop what???
Jay:
That! You know I don't like pretenses!
Kim:
What??? It's the truth, he's been really busy…
Jay:
Will you ever stop believing that things are fine as they are?
Kim:
That's the last thing he needs from me.
Jay:
Why don't you tell him about how he really makes you feel?
Kim:
I feel fine!
Jay:
Kimberly, will you wake up??? Will you ever wake up???
Kim:
I am awake! This is a no-sleeping area you know?!
Kim gives a nippy smile…
Jay gives up and sighs, trying not to laugh! He then shifts to
an inquiring tone…
Jay:
Puerto Gallera???
Kim:
Yeah… for a 2-week vacation..
Jay:
When are you leaving???
Kim:
Maybe two weeks from now.
Jay:
Oh…
Jay puts out what's left of his cigarette.
