Grinders 7, Crew 6
In an great finish the Morgen Grinders (MOR) won in dramatic fashion over the
Dou's Crew (DOU) by a score of 7 to 6 at Safeco Field.
Morgen Grinders won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Darin Erstad led off and keyed the rally when he
lined a single. Mark McGwire stepped up next and he bombed a two-run dinger
(his 1st of the season). After an out was recorded, Jim Edmonds stepped in
and he drew a walk. After another out, Lance Berkman came to the plate and
drew a walk. Fernando Tatis stepped into the box and drew a walk to load the
bases. Darryl Hamilton kept the rally going and laced a single giving Morgen
Grinders the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Dou's Crew
scored in 6 different innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from
victory.
Byung-Hyun Kim(1-0) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory.
Julian Tavarez(0-2) took the loss in relief. 'That was exciting!,' Todd
Hundley said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.'

Center fielder Jim Edmonds had 2 base hits and Matt Herges dominated striking
out 12 Dou's Crew batters as the Morgen Grinders (MOR) beat the Dou's Crew
(DOU) by a score of 5 to 1.
Herges(1-0) had a strong outing. He surrendered only 6 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings. After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.
Armando Reynoso(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed Morgen Grinders 5
runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work. When asked about his strikeout total for
the game, Herges offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see
them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I
kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without
the 'W'.'

49,687 fans watched an exciting game at The Skydome. The Dou's Crew (DOU)
topped the Morgen Grinders (MOR) by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Dou's Crew came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning with 2 runs using
2 hits. After an out was recorded, Gary Sheffield got things going when he
drew a walk. Richard Hidalgo stepped up to the plate and he doubled. Andres
Galarraga then was walked intentionally to load the bases. Daryle Ward came
up and he delivered a single bringing in a run. Jeffrey Hammonds stepped
into the box and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning.
Morgen Grinders threatened in the 9th but Dou's Crew was able to put down the
rally.
Bruce Chen(2-1) went 2 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Chen got help
from Robb Nen who earned his 3rd save. Kevin Walker(0-1) was tagged with the
loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and 2 walks in 1/3 of an inning.
When questioned about the loss, Mike L. Morgensen said, 'The fans got to see
an exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it
done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the
smiles.'

Dou's Crew had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Andres Galarraga led off and he lined a
base-hit. Scott Spiezio was next and he grounded into a double play.
Jeffrey Hammonds then drew a walk. Neifi Perez was up next and he lined a
single. Matt Williams stepped into the box and doubled scoring two
teammates. Morgen Grinders was retired without difficulty in the 9th.
The victory went to Al Levine(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Jason
Christiansen earned the save, his 1st. Dave Veres(0-1) took the loss in
relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 3 hits and 2 walks.

Shortstop Rafael Furcal hit 2 doubles and had 4 RBI at Safeco Field as the
Morgen Grinders (MOR) beat the Dou's Crew (DOU) 10 to 7.
Morgen Grinders wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning with 2
runs on 3 hits. Darin Erstad led off and keyed the rally when he laced a
single. Furcal came next and he doubled. Mark McGwire then hit a sacrifice
fly which scored a run. Greg Colbrunn came up and he slapped a one-base hit
scoring the final run of the inning. Dou's Crew made it exciting in the 9th,
but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
The victory was credited to Matt Herges(2-0) who went 8 innings, allowing 4
runs. Darryl Kile(2-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed Morgen Grinders 5
runs in 2 innings of work.
