They are the C12's two winningest clubs in the Strat-O-Matic era. Coming into the finals, they were the only two clubs to have won three Henderson Cups each. In an epic matchup that was too many years in the making, the Avery Tards and Morgen Grinders did not disappoint. The teams exchanged victories through the first five games, culminating in the Grinders win in an exhaustingly dramatic, 13 inning, 3-2 Game 5 victory. The Tards did not back down, however, riding a magnificent effort by Greg Maddux to victory in Game 6 to set the stage for a deciding seventh game. Tom Glavine, 0-2 in this series and 1-6 lifetime in three seperate Henderson Cup Finals versus the Grinders, broke his curse in 2001. After losing deciding seventh games in 1996 and 1997, Glavine worked a shaky 5 innings but left the game trailing only 1-0. One batter after Shawon Dunston's single tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the 5th, J.D. Drew wrapped a 3-run homer around the rightfield foul pole to give the Tards a lead that would never be relinguished. Gabe White worked the 9th innings of both Games 6 and 7 and saved 3 of Avery's 4 wins in the Finals to grab the honor of series MVP.
