Dave Avery achieved in his second season what the Chicago Cubs have been unable to do for generations -- He brought a championship to Ol' Wrigley. The Duxz, who coasted after essentially clinching the Northern Division with an 11.5 game lead in early September, turned on the afterburners in the postseason. After sweeping through the semifinals, Avery's club gutted Rusty Fenton's M'Ups with a deft combination of power and pitching. The Duxz jumped to a 2-0 lead on the M'Ups' home turf and never relinguished the series lead before winning it all in 6 games. The Duxz starters were unbeaten, with Tommy Greene winning 2 games and Greg Maddux delivering a shutout in the clincher. The MVP award, however, went to the venerable Barry Bonds, who capped a mammoth year with 3 homers, 6 RBIs, 3 steals and a .409 average in the finals.
