1996 Grinders Edge Kongs To Win 2nd Title Founding franchise ends 8 year championship drought
Grinders ace, Pete Schourek, rebounding from a two month slump with shutouts of the Kongs in Games 1 and 4, stepped forward to stop Hocking once more. His 7 1/3 inning outing combined with relief from Ricky Bottalico and Curt Leskanic to clinch the Grinders' first title since 1988 as well as the series Most Valuable Player award. All together, Schourek threw 28 consecutive scoreless innings and three straight shutouts in this year's postseason.
