Grinders Edge Kongs To Win 2nd Title
Founding franchise ends 8 year championship drought

    Championship Series MVP
    Pete Schourek
In a tension packed series that included record-setting run totals and brilliant starting pitching, the Morgen Grinders held off the surging Hocking Kongs to win their second Classic 10 title, four games to three. Hocking weathered an incredible 20-0 loss in Game 1 and evened the series the next day, but fell to a three games to one deficit after four. Two decisive victories later, the series was tied, forcing a deciding Game 7 at Fenway Park.

Grinders ace, Pete Schourek, rebounding from a two month slump with shutouts of the Kongs in Games 1 and 4, stepped forward to stop Hocking once more. His 7 1/3 inning outing combined with relief from Ricky Bottalico and Curt Leskanic to clinch the Grinders' first title since 1988 as well as the series Most Valuable Player award. All together, Schourek threw 28 consecutive scoreless innings and three straight shutouts in this year's postseason.
