1999 Tards break postseason curse
Cris Avery finally wins in postseason for 1st Strat title

Championship Series MVP
Joey Hamilton
|
One year removed from their third straight early exit from the playoffs without a series win, the Avery Tards stepped up and captured their third Henderson Cup. Following a 6-game semifinal series win, the Tards duplicated the effort versus the Rivercrypts. After splitting the first 2 games of the series, Cris Avery made the inspired choice of Joey Hamilton as his Game 3 starter. Hamilton, who did not start in the semis, gained immortal status by tossing the second no-hitter in Henderson Cup Final history (after Curt Schilling's gem in 1996). Suddenly confident that the fates were finally on his side, Avery sent Kevin Sefcik home against the rifle arm of Vladimir Guerrero with 2 down in the 9th inning of Game 6 with what proved to the series winning run.
