South's comeback evens All Star series 8 unanswered runs after going down 5 result in victory
BOSTON -- In a two run game the Southern Division All Stars got the best of the Northern Division by the score of 8 to 6, in front of 34,353 fans at Fenway Park. The All Star series, inaugurated in 1995 now stands even at 4 games a piece. The South overcame a 5th inning, 5-0 deficit, going ahead for good in the 7th inning when they scored 3 runs on 2 hits. The highlight belonged to Skramalonian 2B Fernando Vina, who thrilled the crowd when he tripled off Crew reliever Scott Sullivan, plating 3 runs. The South Stars had 11 hits for the night. The North's opportunity to take an unprecedented 2-game lead in the All Star series came unraveled on the watch of Kongs' pitchers Randy Johnson and Russ Ortiz. After teammate Darryl Kile delivered 2 shutout innings, Johnson was peppered for 3 hits and 4 runs to cut the North lead to 5-4. Ortiz came on with the game tied in the 7th and promptly loaded the bases to set the stage for Vina's heroics. Fellow Skramalonian Giovanni Carrara went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Operator closer Troy Percival got the final out and the save. Ortiz gets tagged with the loss. |
