Dragonball, the original series by Akira Toriyama was put on air in 1985. This series introduces most of the main characters such as Goku, Bulma, Master Roshi, Tien, Chaotzu, and Yamcha. This series was a comical one in many ways like Dr. Slump, Mr. Toriyama's other creation. As the series goes on, the story gets less and less humorous and more serious. Eventually, it leads to the creation of Dragonball Z.

Dragonball Z is the second chapter to this popular series. This part of the story has a drastic change in the story atmosphere. Instead of a humorous action sequence, this part is serious and has more of a mortal combat type of theme. Many characters are introduced in this series as well, for example, Gohan, Goten, Vegeta, and Trunks. The four major evils of this series are Vegeta (who eventually becomes good), Freeza, Cell, and Buu. As each Villain is stronger then the previous, the Z Fighters are also always gaining Power. Many deaths occur in this series but are countered by the revisions.
Dragonball GT is the most recently released of the Dragonball series. Although it was not drawn by Akira Toriyama, it is still very good. During this series, the storyline is pretty much reverted back to that of Dragonball. This is the series where Goku and Vegeta turn Super Saiya-jin 4. Also, instead of searching for the normal Dragonballs, Goku starts on a quest for the Darkstar Dragonballs, Which happen to be scattered all over the galaxy.
