EPISODE -3 "God Bless" ,"God Bless you" This term is so frequently heard in Christian circles, especially when one says bye to friends after a meeting or when one prays for others. Rather natural you would say! And so would I. But Jesus Himself stopped me one day. I pray for my patients several times a day and I had a tendency to pray like this - Dear God, kindly heal all my patients, kindly bless them abundantly . In Jesus name Amen. One evening during one family prayer, when my wife was worshipping in tongues, Jesus started talking to me through her. "You must not pray to me to bless everyone. It is not my will to bless everyone. You have many patients who are non Christians and even Christians who worship idols, some who indulge in witchcraft and sorcery; it is not my will to bless every one. "Pray only that the medicines that you give them may bring a relief to their symptoms and their sickness." When I thought about the matter deeply, I realized how careful I had to be when I prayed. Perhaps I had just made it a routine affair while I prayed. God bless him. God bless her; when often I did not even know anything about that persons life. Moral Obviously God doesn't intend to bless every one, because then He would be going against his own Word, which He doesn't. The blessings and curses are so vividly mentioned in the Word of God, for those who love God and those who hate him and live according to their own ways ,respectively. Of course God in His mercy sends the sun and rain both on the righteous and the wicked ,but it would be mistake on our part to pray to Him to bless all. Sometimes sicknesses that people suffer from may be due to curses that have come upon their lives for living in rebellion to God and His Word.Deuteronomy Ch.28 explains this very well. It would be then inappropriate for one to pray to God to bless such a person for it is against His Word. Ofcourse one can pray for that person to delivered from his/her sinful state and that God in His mercy to heal .It would be better to leave the blessing part to God ,especially when one is praying for unbelievers and people whose lives we know nothing about. |
