Bass

Largemouth Bass

Largemouth Bass are the prize of most anglers. They are fun fish to catch and can reach 20lbs in weight. They are charecterized by their Large Mouth which reaches behind the eyes. They have dark stripes on a light body.

Smallmouth Bass

Smallmouth bass are just as fun to catch as their counterpart the LargeMouth, but they don't get quite as large. They are mostly found in the south. You can differentiate between them and the Large because the eyes of the Small are behind their mouth. They are dark, and have dark stripes on them.

White Bass

White Bass are another fun sport fish. They can be found in most of the large resevoirs in western Nebraska, such as Lake McConaughy and Sherman Resivoir. They'll bite on any kind of minnow, and are alot like Crappie (see Below). The record size for a Crappie is 6.8lbs

Catfish

Channel Catfish

Channel Catfish are tough to catch, but they are fun. They can reach monster sizes, the largest on record being 58lbs. They live in the Rivers and other dirty water areas. Their are many different ways to catch them, including the imfamous "noodling"(see links page).

Flathead Cats

Flathead Cats are alot like the Channel Cats, except that they are not as ugly of fish. They are usually caught in lakes. They can also get huge, their peak weight being 55lbs. They bite on anything stinky, and are bottom feeders, just like the Channel Cat's.

Pan Fish

Crappie

Crappie (pronounced Crop ie) are another popular panfish. Their are two breeds, white and black. They are best caught when the Crappie are "running" (spring). They can be caught with worms on a bobber. They are a good fish to teach kids to fish for, because they aren't huge, and don't take alot of skill to catch. They can reach up to 5lbs.

Bluegill

Bluegill are tons of fun, and super easy to catch. They bite on worms, and sometimes, just hooks. They are charecterized by their blue scales right next to the gill. They can have all sorts of different body markings besides this. Some striped, some speckled, etc.

Various Fishes

Northern Pike

Norther Pike usually live out in the sandhills of Nebraska. They are a colder water fish. They are probably one of the biggest lake fish in Nebraska. They have lots of teeth, so you need to have steel leaders to catch these. Lots of people ice fish for these prize fish. They are not good eating.

Tarpon

Tarpons are not really a Nebraska fish, but they are awesome fish, and it is my personal goal to catch one. The main reason for this is that the fish get to be up to 300lbs, and can seriously hurt you if you aren't careful. They drag the boats that you fish from for miles before they wear out. They are AWESOME FISH!
