Plot: Frasier and Niles have been involved in a slight car accident. Nothing too serious, but they go to the hospital anyway. Whilst there they have a long wait, and end up talking to a guy named Phil who just keeps droning on and on. To get away from him, Frasier says he feels much better now and leaves. When Frasier's name is called, Phil pretends to be Frasier so he can be treated quicker.

Niles is cross because Maris' plastic surgeon, Dr Mel Karnovsky, has wrongly billed him for something. He goes to see the doctor and finds out that she's an attractive woman. Niles tries to ask her out but fails to do so.

Meanwhile Frasier's death is reported on the news. It seems that Phil, who took Frasier's place earlier, had a heart attack and died. Frasier calls the news station to correct them and reads his obituaries in the paper. He decides that he wants to do more in life, such as running marathons, and starts taking up new things. Martin doesn't want to send back the condolence baskets as they have some "neat stuff" in them which he wants, so he's breaking them a bit "We can't send them back now.....". Frasier end up tripping whilst training for his marathon and ends up with a sprained ankle and a cane.

Later Frasier realises that some of the things on his list are absurd and settles to more realistic things such as learning Russian. Niles meanwhile plucks up the courage to ask out Mel.

Subtitles: What, Me Worry?; Dead Man Watching.

It's Maris!!!..... Botch Job: One year for their anniversary, Niles gave Maris a botcholeanen toxin which reduces wrinkles in foreheads. Mel also gives this to Niles later on.

Martin knows..... Jimmy and the guys at McGinty's who are giving him free beers as his son has "died".

Trivia: First appearance of Mel, mention of Regan next door. We learn Frasier was born in 1952, which makes him 48 (he turns 49 in Ep 152 "Back Talk"). His age through the series has mostly followed this date (i.e. in Series 1, in 1993, he was 41).
