Thomas McGowan was born on July 26th 1958 in New Jersey. He trained with the Yale School of Drama and worked with the NY Shakespeare Festival. Tom turned his attention to TV, and in 1981 he starred in the soap opera Another Life. During the 1980s he worked in many low-brow shows, such as Umbrella Jack (1986). Similar roles followed. In 1991 La Bete, a play in verse, needed a new actor to replace Ron Silver. Tom was chosen for the role and here he attracted the critics' attention. He won a Tony for Best Actor for this play. The 1990s saw his TV career improve drastically. He starred in the sitcoms Down The Shore and Monty, playing Monty's sidekick. He also guest starred as Principle LaRue in Sabrina, The Teenage Witch. These roles eventually led him to Frasier, where he was cast as Station Manager Kenny Daley in 1998. He's also had a recurring role as Bernie in Everybody Loves Raymond. Tom has also appeared in a few films too. He co-starred with David Hyde Pierce in Sleepless In Seattle and has also appeared in Mrs Parker & Her Vicious Circle (1994) and The Birdcage (1996) with Robin Williams, as well as small parts in several others.
