Yokohama City is the second largest city in Japan (its population is more than three million). But its history is very short: less than 150 years. Yokohama was only a small village when Japan concluded a treaty of commerce and navigation with USA, Great Britain, France, Russia and Holland on 1858. But this treaty included an important article: Foreigners were allowed to make a business freely at Yokohama and four other cities (Kobe, Nagasaki, Hakodate and Simoda). Since then, Yokohama developed rapidly, because it has a good port and its location is near Edo (ancient name of Tokyo). Even after 1868 when modern Japan was founded, Yokohama's rapid development did not change. It became the most important port town in Japan and created a unique culture, which is a combination of Japan and Europe. At Yokohama, You can feel an elegant and classy atmosphere, I guess. As I mentioned, Yokohama is a large city, but its place of interest is concentrated around Kannai Station and Isikawatyo Station. So, you can enjoy this beautiful city easily.

I guess it is a good idea to enjoy a beautiful port. So, I recommend trying a pleasure boat, which is departing from Yamasita Park. There are varieties of course (from 30minutes to 2hours). But, no problem if you choose which course. From a boat, you cannot miss to discover a charm of this port.

And "MM21" is a good place to visit. This district is developed recently, and there are luxurious hotels (JAL, Pan Pacific and Inter-Continental) and charming amusement park. It is an excellent idea to try an afternoon tea in the hotel. And don't miss to try a Ferris wheel at the amusement park. The scene from this Ferris wheel will be a good memory, I believe.
