The Webmaster and his Family

Last Modified: 07 December 2005

Godo Hi !   My name is Gregorio Orbeta, and I am a retired Electronics and Communications Engineer ( #225.)
Pacita, (nee Paz Reyes) as my wife is fondly known to her friends and relatives,  was a BSE graduate (1937) from the University of the Philippines.  She was formerly a school teacher in Tingloy and San Juaquin, Batangas, and her parents were from Bataan and Batangas,  Philippines.

Before the outbreak of World War II,  I was 2nd Radio Operator to "Chief Sparks,"  Bartolome Helvano,  onboard "SS Susana,"  with Capt. Jose Ayesa in command. (Left photo: Me and "Chief Sparks," Click to zoom).

After that memorable stint in the high-seas and foreign countries,  I joined RCA as Asst. Shift Engineer in the RCA Radio Transmitting Station.

My career in RCA ended on that fateful day, during World War II,  when a US Army demolition crew dynamited the RCA Radio Transmitting Station,  before the invading Japanese military forces closed in on the defenseless "Open City" of Manila.

I  rejoined RCA after the war.  Then I transferred to Pan American Airways, for the better job position and pay.
When the management  and operation of the communication facilities of Pan Am and the other airlines were taken over by the US CAA,  and later,  it was turned over to PI CAA,  where I was reporting to so many bosses,  I decided to join Philippine Airlines.

I retired after continuously and loyally serving Philippine Airlines for 34 years (1948-1982,)  in the Avionics, Communications Maintenance,  and Management departments.

Our Home Now that I am retired and had long since given up my "Ham Radio" hobby of 28 years,  you will just maybe find me at home (click photo to zoom)  oil painting, researching for the forebears of our patriarch, Francisco Paras Orbeta, or updating my Genealogy Web Site.

My former "Amateur Radio Station " call signs in Manila were: KA1ABV, KA1AW, and DU1AWand in Cebu,  it was DU7GO.

My "QSL" card.

We have 4 sons, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grand-daughters.

On our 50th Wedding Anniversary (1990), at home with our family.
