INTRO 1. This Week's Headlines
Iraq Elects Hussein
Saddam has been elected for another seven years in power. But there was
only one name on the ballot. According to official reports, he got 100%
of the vote. Even Stalin didn't get that! All 11,445,638 eligible voters
cast their ballots for the Great Uncle. The day before, the total added
up to 11,758,900. Ah, those details. So hard to get right when you’re
making history.
North Korea Says it has a Nuclear Program
It's not everyday that a country admits they are developing nuclear weapons.
After leaving the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in the early 90's,
North Korea says they have a nuclear program. The United States has said
that this problem will be solved through dialogue. Okay, so why not the
Iraq problem?
2. Today's Ha Ha
A linguistics professor was speaking to his class one day. 'In English,'
he said, 'A double negative forms a positive. In some languages, such
as Russian, a double negative is still a negative. However, there is no
language in which a double positive can form a negative.'
A voice from the back of the room said, 'Yeah, right.'
3. Proverb Parade
Bits of wisdom in short sayings. Easy to remember and easy to use.
One man's pearl is another man's swine.
One man's steak is another man's poison.
