The Never-Ending Rant ![]() Evangelion Hentai: The Next Generationby Ira GoldbergIssue VIII - July 10th, 2000 Recently I caved in and finally joined the legendary, ground-breaking Internet site we all know and become addicted to called Ebay! I anticipated acquiring the entire EVA series in no time now, paying but a fraction of the price of the tapes, the sole obstacle in my reluctance to ever buy them in the first place. I swore there would be a ton of people willing to part with their tapes, subtitled and dubbed. I was in for a reality trip. After anxiously creating my new Ebay account, during which I rushed a bit and had to simply use a home email address, I typed in the word that would lead me to aquire that series I wanted so much... Shin Seiki Evangelion... Not only was I dismayed at how few people were actually selling their Evangelion tapes, but also appauled at the most numerous and apparently popular item listed. Fan created Evangelion Hentai! Don't get me wrong about anything. I've had this site up here for two and a half years now, I've gotten my share of requests for it. Hell, a few asked if I could make them some. The concept of people getting off on Rei, Asuka, Misato, and tentacles... well, I'm not gonna go there. My quarrel isn't with those fans who are into Hentai at all. I won't lose respect people for their interest in something, no matter how kinky and perverse *oh and trust me, I find it perverse* something like anime pornography is. Two of my best friends kind of like it and I don't lose respect for them *partly because I have none, just kiddin' guys...*; however, with a series as so prolific as Evangelion, isn't it jsut a little demeaning. Before I get a slew of emails berating me for saying that I believe you can't appreciate NGE in your own way, allow me to justify my stance. NGE is perhaps one of the most meaningful and deep series ever made. Hell, it was Hideki Anno's masterpiece. It was a milestone. We all know that. There are its own "fan service" moments but doesn't it just lower the series a little bit when we're having the series morbid, Rei, and the virtually unknown and transparent Misato Katsuragi doing inexplicable things to each other. Human Instrumentality my ass. We're not ready for the Third Impact. Hell, I welcome the second impact! Can I go to bed yet? |
