Airlock

Area which can be pressurized and depressurized, to provide controlled access to open space. An airlock consists of at least one
chamber with one inner and one outer door. The Cardassian airlocks at Deep Space Nine have two chambers.

Astrometrics

Astrometrics (also known as Stellar Cartography) is part of the Science Department and its primary function is to examine the
political structures and statistics of all major political powers in all known galaxies. A geopolitical map of the galaxy is available
for those who wish to view the relative political borders of the governments listed in this section. Utilizing Holo-emitters they are
the cutting edge of Federation computer technology, allowing for highly accurate Starship course control, and even long-term
projections of Astronomical events. The modified systems are ten times more accurate than the technology originally fitted on a
Starfleet vessels. The new astrometrics sensors use the stars to navigate by measuring the radiative flux of up to three billion
stars simultaneously, and the computer then calculates the ships position relative to the centre of the galaxy. The main
viewscreen reaches from floor to ceiling and is controlled from the main console that faces it. The imaging database is driven by
an advanced holographic generator which obtains its data from the central computer core. The lab is directly linked to the ships
sensor arrays so that incoming data instantly updates existing records. The ships sensors can detect everything from nebulae to
specific minerals on individual planets. The viewscreen can display everything from an overview of the entire galaxy to a specific
region of a planet when information on political alliances and alien borders can be displayed as detailed maps. As well as showing
complex data and sensor readings as computer graphics, the screen can relay visual data such as log entries and can also be
used as a conventional viewscreen to establish face-to-face communication. These displays can be overlaid with charts, labels and
grids to show the ships most recent course or a projected course, or just internal ship schematics. Apart from the main console
that faces the main viewscreen, there are secondary consoles on either side of the main console on the outer walls which handle
functions such as radiative flux measurements, stellar cartography and spectral analysis. A central console controls the comm
link such as receipt of the signal and manipulation to produce the best quality.

Bridge

The Bridge is the nerve center of the ship. From here, some of the most important events take place.

Standard Bridge design for Sovereign Class Vessels

Captains Quarters

The Captains Quarters, located on Deck 2, immediately below the bridge. Also on Deck 2 are the other senior officer's quarter's,
all nearby. They are twice the size of regular officer's quarters. Rank, after all, has it's privileges.

Captain's Ready Room

Located on Deck One, adjacent to the Bridge, the Captain's Ready Room serves as his office. There is a couch large enough to
sleep on, and a fully functional Head adjacent to the office.

Counselling Office

The Counseling offices are sort of "A sickbay for the mind" Appointments available by request, assignment or walk-in.

Departmenthead's Office

Typically located adjacent to the primary loacation of that department, the Chief's Office is a standard space assigned for a
Departmenthead's usage.

Engineering
Engineers will tell you that, if the Bridge is the nerve center of the ship, then engineering is the heart of the ship. Perhaps they're
right - after all, without Engineering, it's very doubtful we'd be heading anywhere. Ships capable of Saucer Seperation or MVAM
have more then one Engineering.

Enlisted Quarters

Located throughout large portions of the ship, Enlisted Quarters serve as home to all Junior Non-Commissioned Officers. Senior
NCOs (Chiefs and above) get the equivalent of Officer's Quarters.

Executive Officer's Office

The Executive Officer usually maintains an Office on Deck Two.

Holodecks
The Holodecks are the most commonly used recreation facilities on most ships, and are capable of reproducing any environment
imaginable in utterly convincing detail. Most crew members say the Holodecks are what keep them sane. They are also used as
a training ground for Security.

Holography Lab

The Holography lab is one of the most frequently used by the Science Department, having the ability the let them visualize thier
theories in 3D. It is als used by the technicians in Holographic research.

Jefferies Tube

After the first warpship designs the ship became bigger and bigger and it became difficult to repair and control the subsystems
because everytime a system failed somebody had to open a panel , disturbing the other crewmembers which just wanted to walk
down the floor. This problem was solved with the invention of the jeffries tubes. The Jeffries tunnels form a newtwork of small
tunnels which lead through the whole ship. They offer the engeneers an easy access to all systems. The tubes vary in size
according to their importance. Tubes which connect vital systems of the ships are about 1,9m high so everybody can walk easily
through them. The tubes connecting low priority systems are small and norrow so that the only way to go through them ist to
crawl on the floor. The tubes can be accessed through small doors in almost every section of the ship. There´re two sorts of tubes
- horizontal tubes and vertical tubes wwhich can be climbed with ladders embedded in the walls.

Lounge

The Lounge is usually located in the forward most section of the saucer. It is the main lounge for the ship's officers and crew. The
Lounge may vary according to the size of the starship.

Messhall

The Captain's Mess is the typical dining place of choice for the Captain and Senior Officers, when not dining in thier quarters. The
Captain's Mess is only available on large ships on smaller ships the Captain and Senior Officers may use the Crew Mess (or Mess
Hall).

Nacelle Control

Nacelle control, located in the forward section of each nacelle, directly behind the bussard collectors and fore of the plasma relays.

Observation Lounge

This observation lounge is located on the same deck as the bridge, and is where the ship's senior officer's meet to discuss and
prepare for upcoming and current missions. It also offers a private room for officers to chat during bridge duty, about whatever they
may need to. The room also has a giant holographic viewer where data can be shown during briefings.

Officer's Quarters

Usually located throughout much of the upper half of the ship, the Officer's Quarters are standard issue. They can be enlarged to
accomodate married couples, with the Commanding Officer's Quarters being double the size of any of the Senior Staffs.

Science Labs

Spread throughout the ship, though primarily in the saucer section, the Science Labs serve as locations for any members of the
crew to do whatever research is necessary (or even preferred).

Sickbay

All ships are equipped with Sickbays, larger vessels have access to more sickbay and other facilities. Sickbay has been
modernized and all the latest technology is incorporated. Each bio bed now has the entire readout panels attached to the bed,
making for a less clutterd and sterile look. Each panel is independently operated by the Doctors or nurses. The master console
is for monitoring any individual or set of biobeds. The console also doubles as a communications console as well as direct
computer interface if required. Usually the Chief Medical Officer's main office is also located in or near Sickbay.

Usually larger ships operate with dedicated surgery units.

The Decompression/Decontamination is an auxilliary unit to Sickbay and as such not available on all ships, and is manned and
used as necessarry. It is also used as an isolation ward in the event of a possible plague outbreak, or if the the CMO needs to do
research or care on a highly contagious patient.

Tactical Planning Centre

The Tactical Planning Centre is only available on warships and ships that have a tactical purpose in the fleet. The standard size
TPC takes up 3 decks, and is used to monitor fleet movements and plan stratagies.

Transporter Rooms

There are (Primary, Emergency, Industrial/Cargo) Transporter Rooms spread throughout the ship, serving as the crew's primary
conveyance on and off ship.

Xenobiology Lab

The Xenobiology lab is shared by Sickbay and Sciences, and is used to study all new forms of life the crew encounters.
