1. FRP Cafe # 1 - Friday, October 13, 2006 (PDF)

Why FRP?

With the growing demand of high performance and smart structures and for the effective retrofitting of existing structures, structural engineers are stretching themselves towards the domain of innovative materials rather than focusing on traditional materials such as concrete and steel alone. Among the innovative materials, Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) has already been established as an excellent candidate due to its high strength to weight ratio, immunity to corrosion, ability of formation in a very long length (eliminating the need of lapping at joints) and speed of execution.

About FRP Café

FRP Café is a seminar that provides a platform for interaction and discussion amongst researchers and students regarding the recent developments in the understanding of mechanics of FRP materials and their application in civil engineering structures. Discussions will be held in a relaxed mood enjoying a cup of coffee.

Frequency

To be held fortnightly (2nd and 4th Friday of every month) from 5:30 pm ~ 6:30 pm.

Modality

Each meeting would have a theme and one person will present on that and everybody will participate in the discussion. Later on others may share new information if they have any.
