Field Trip to Zeitgeist Gallery and Fidos - Elephant Artworks - February 4, 2000
On Friday, February 4th, students from the fourth and first grades and kindergarten attended a reception given by Zeitgeist Gallery, Fido Coffeehouse, and The Elephant Sanctuary. The students boarded three busses at the school and rode downtown, getting off right on the corner in front of the Zeitgeist Gallery. Inside were dozens of elephant artworks from all over the country, some by celebrities and famous artists. We also saw a videotape about the Hohenwald Elephant Sanctuary and the work they do there. After the reception by the Gallery, we went across the street to Fido's Coffee House to see our own elephant artworks on display. The people working at Fido's were very nice, one man even showed us how they roast and grind coffee beans. We got samples of the roasted beans. Our artworks were on display, covering two large walls. It was very exciting to see our drawings displayed for everyone to see. We had a snack of cookies or pastries then boarded the bus for the trip back to school.
The Gower school students artwork for the Elephant Sanctuary is now on display at Fido's Coffeehouse, 1812 21st Avenue, South, in Hillsboro Village. It will be on display there until March, 2000. At that time the art will be moved to the Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald and placed on a website.
