FROM THE STATE JOURNAL:
Junior Tyler Percy banked in a 35 foot, 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, and Derrick Enges free throws with 30 seconds left sealed the Eagles win over the Silver Eagles. Sauk went 8-10 from the line in OT while MG was 2-6. Junior Alex Zwart Had 19 for and Senior Guard Shane Kieler had 18 for MG
FROM THE SAUK PRAIRIE EAGLE:
The Eagles escaped with a 59-56 Badger Conference cross over victory over Monona Grove Feb. 9.
With 3.2 seconds left, Sauk Prairie clung to a 51-48 lead. The Silver Eagles inbounded the ball to junior Tyler Percy, who after fumbling the ball banked in a turnaround three-pointer a few feet from half court to send the game into overtime.
"I felt it was a miracle shot," Ballweg said. "We still had one foul to give. I tried to foul him and I knocked the ball away."
Grinde is proud his team was able to overcome the rush of emotions.
"It's one of those shots you shoot in your driveway when you are talking to yourself," Grinde said. "Those types of shots deflate a team. I was very concerned with how we would respond to that shot."
The Eagles connected on 15-of-20 free throws in the fourth quarter and overtime combined. The Eagles were led by Wipperfurth who had 19 points and Ballweg who had 18.
The Silver Eagles opened the first quarter on a 15-5 run. The Eagles closed the gap in the second quarter and cut the halftime lead to 28-23.
The Eagles used a 1-2-2 zone in the second half that limited the Silver Eagles to just one field goal.
"To go zone was just kind of searching to see," Grinde said. "We were searching for something to be a little better."
