Glen's Father and Mother

Glen Fred WILSON *

Glen was born on 20 October 1891 in Kuckville, Carlton Township, Orleans County, New York. He died on 9 January 1966 in Santa Ana, Orange County, California.⁽³⁾ He was buried on 12 January 1966 in Santa Ana Cemetery, Masonic Section.⁽⁴⁾ In 26 August 1914 Glen married first, Rhoda Sadie FARMER in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.⁽²⁾ There were no children from this union and they divorced on 17 November 1919... An article appearing in the gossip column of the 9 September 1914 Orleans Republican newspaper of Albion, reads: "Glenn Wilson and bride from Rochester are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Wilson"... The 1915 State Census for Lake Road (Kuckville), Carlton Township, Orleans County, New York, lists "John Farmer, 72yrs (Occupation Mason, b. Canada), as father-in-law living with Glen F. Wilson, 23, and wife Rhoda S., 19"... Thier marriage license states her place of birth as St. Regis Falls, New York, [Adirondack Park County] and her mothers maiden name as Alsora Parmer... Glen's occupation is shown as Bookeeper and living in Barnard, Monroe County, New York... [Barnard does not appear on present day maps but it is believed to have been a suburb of Rochester]... Glen's second marriage was to Dora Alice PETERS on 4 September 1920 in Albion, Orleans County, New York.

After the death of his father in 1934, Glen moved his family from New York to California... In October 1934 they arrived at Dora's parents in Santa Ana, California, where they stayed a few months... From 1935 through 1937 the family lived in Garden Grove where they had purchased a combination grocery and gas station on 17th Street, a main thoroughfare from Santa Ana to Garden Grove. Located behind the store was a moderate stucco house... In late 1937 they sold their holdings and moved to Laguna Beach and purchasd a similar store and gas station combination on North Coast Boulevard... This time their grocery store was attached to the house and the gas station set apart 40 to 50 feet... The main building was a wood frame structure with a large garage and storage area underneath... The lot was situated so that the gas station, store and living quarters were on one level and garage one level below, accessed from an alleyway... The gas station had three pumps, each requiring gas to be pumped into a reservoir on top of the pump where gas was delivered by gravity... In 1946/7 they sold the Laguna Beach facilities and moved into a small apartment attached to Dora's mother's home in Santa Ana... During this period they lived as retirees, off and on in Santa Ana and Long Beach... While in Long Beach they managed the Argyle Apartments on Coast Boulivard... [This complex was previously managed by William Frier (Dora's mother's brother), and his wife Florence]... After Dora's mother died in August 1961 they purchased a 12'x 60' mobile home on Trask Avenue in Garden Grove, within two miles of where they had settled in 1934... A few years after Glen's death in 1966, Dora sold the mobile home and moved to Santa Clara, California, and lived there with her son Glen and his family... An apartment had been created out of the garage and she lived there until her death in 1961... When Dora died she was cremated and her ashes shipped to Santa Ana and placed in the grave of her husband.

Santa Ana register Obituary: "Glen Fred Wilson, 74, of 12152 Trask Ave, Space 61, Garden Grove, Calif, passed away January 9, 1966. Survived by wife Mts. Dora A. Wilson, of Garden Grove, two sons, Melvin G. Wilson, of Lakewood, Calif., Glen P. Wilson, of Santa Clara, Calif., one brother, Wilfred N. Wilson, of Albion, New York, 5 grandchildren. Mr. Wilson was a native of Town of Carlton, New York. He had beeen a resident of Orange County the past 31 years. He was the owner and operator of a grocery and service station in Laguna Beach. For 4 years he was an employee of Orange County, and the last 6 years he has been an employee of the Masonic Temple. He was a member of the Silver Cord No 505 Masonic Lodge, also a member of the First Baptist Church of Santa Ana. Service time is Wednesday, Jan. 12, 1966 at 2:00pm; Officiant Rev Daniel G. Rider. To be held at Smith & Tuthill Chapel. Grave side Rites Siver Cord No 505 Masonic Lodge, Santa Ana Cemtery." Another Obituary in the Albion Advertiser, 27 January 1966, reads: "Glen F. Wilson, 74, a former businessman of Albion, passed away on Jan 9 in Garden Grove, Calif., after a year's illness. He leaves his wife, the former Dora Peters, two sons, Melvin G. and Glen Jr., also of California; one brother, Wilfred Wilson of Albion and five grandchildren. He was a member of Silver Cord No. 505 Masonic Lodge. Also, member of First Baptist Church of Santa Ana. He was born in the Town of Carlton, the son of Fred and Lottie Wilson. He went to California in 1932."
Dora Alice PETERS *
Dora was born on 16 September 1895 in Hudson, Columbia County, New York.^(5c) She died on 3 Jul 1977 in Kiaser Hospital, Santa Clara, Santa Clara County, California. ⁽⁷⁾ Dora was cremated and interned July 1977 in her husbands grave in the Masonic section of Santa Ana Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Santa Clara newspaper reads: "Wilson, Dora Alice - In Santa Clara, July 3, 1977. Mrs. Dora Alice Wilson beloved mother of Mr. Glen P. Wilson of Santa Clara and Melvin G. Wilson of Nevada. Dear sister-in-law of Mr. Wilfred Wilson of New York. Devoted grandmother of Steven Wilson, Dana Louder, Debra Ang, Lynn Wilson, Christopher Wilson and Mello Wilson and a great grandmother of 6. A chartered member of Albion Chapter No. 800 O.E.S Albion, New York. A native of Hudson, New York. Age 81 years. Friends are invited to attend memorial services July 6, 1977 at 7:30 p.m. from the Santa Clara First Baptist Church, 311 Benton St., Santa Clara. Dr. Owen L. Miller officiating. Arrangements under direction of Santa Clara Funeral Home. Private Inturnment, Fairhaven Cemetery, Santa Ana, California".

Mel was born on 15 February 1924 in Albion, Orleans County, New York... He was baptized about 1936 in the 1st Baptist Church, Santa Ana, California... He died 22 December 1997, in Anaheim, California... He was cremated and his ashes dispersed in the ocean near Laguna Beach, California... He first married Doris June Kunze in the Presbyterian Church at Laguna Beach, 30 October 1943... They had two children and they each had children... Mel and June were divorced in 1971... He married second, 22 June 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Lorna Ferguson, and they had one child.^(5a)^(5b)⁽⁹⁾
ii... Frederic Henry WILSON
Frederic was born on 20 July 1928 in Albion, Orleans County, New York and died on 31 May 1929 in Lakeside (family cottage), Orleans County, New York.
OBITUARY: Orleans [County] Republican Newspaper, 1929 reads; "Frederick H. Wilson, Lakeside, June 2 - Frederick Henry Wilson, 1, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen F. Wilson of Albion died here. He is survived by his parents, a brother Melvin, and all his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Wilson of Carlton and Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Peters of Santa Ana, California. Burial took place today in Carlton Cemetery." Another obituary reads: "..it was a great shock to the family and many friends when Frederick Henry, 10 months and 11 day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen F. Wilson was called home after an illness of about three hours, Friday evening, May 31. He leaves to mourn his loss, his father and mother, brother Melvin, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Peters of Santa Ana, California, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilson of Kuckville; his aunts and uncles, Dr.and Mrs. Geo S. Bakeman and Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Wilson, and three cousins. The funeral was held from the cottage at Lakeside Sunday at 2:30, with burial in Carlton Cemetery, Rev. Warren C. Taylor officiating." He was buried on 2 June 1929 in Carlton Cemetery, Orleans County, New York. Frederic died of a ruematic heart condition from birth. It is said Fred E. Wilson had a stroke as a result of Frederic's death, and was in poor health until his death seventeen days after his wife's death.
