2086. Lt. James CONVERS Sr.*^{(194) (306)(307)} was born in 1620 in England. He died on 10 May 1715 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA. James accompanied his father Edward to America in Gov. Winthrops fleet in 1630, when he was about ten years old. His father settled first in Charlestown then Woburn in 1641. He was also known as Ensign. He held the rank of Lieutenant for thirty years while a member of the Woburn militia. He saw service in King Philips War and was often elected deputy from Woburn to the General Court. When he died at the age of ninety-five, he was the last survivor of the original thirty-two subscribers to the town orders of Woburn in 1642. His gravestone epitaph from the First Burial-ground in Woburn Center reads "Mememto mori" - "Fugit hora" - "Here lyes the body of Lieu't. Jamess Conuers who departed this life May the 10'th 1715 in ye 95'th year of his age." He survived his son the Major and his will bequeathed "To my Rev. Pastor, Mr. John Fox, 20 shillings, and to the Church of Christ in 20 shillings to purchase a large flagon withall." He was married to Anna LONG * on 24 Oct 1643 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA.

2087. Anna LONG * was born about 1625 in Charlestown Village (Woburn), MA. She died on 10 Aug 1691 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA. Children were:

i. Hannah CONVERS⁽³⁰⁸⁾ was born on 15 Jul 1644 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA. She died on 30 Jan 1645 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA.
ii. Major James CONVERS Jr.^{(194) (306)(309)} was born on 16 Nov 1645 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA. He died on 8 Jul 1706 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA. James married in Woburn, 1 January 1669, Hannah Carter, who was born 19 January 1650/51 and died 10 August 1691 in Woburn. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (?) Carter. They had nine children. James was freeman 1671, selectman 1680 through 1688, town clerk 1688 and following years, representative to the assemble 1695 through 1699. While serving as Town Clerk he took the loose papers, whereon were recorded Births, Deaths and Marriages in Woburn, and transcribed them into a bound volumn. He served in many capacities and was distingushed during the Indian Wars. He was a Captain when he commanded the small Storer garrison at Wells, Maine, and defended it against 200 indians on 9 June 1691. Because of this action he was made Major and given command of all Massachusetts troops in the district of Maine. He lived for many years in the town of Winchester. His epitaph in the First Burial-ground in Woburn Center read, "Here lyes buried ye body of Major James Convers Esq'r aged 61 years who departed this life July ye 8th 1706".

It appears from records that Lt. John Willson [son of John and Hannah (James) Willson), served under the command of Capt. James Convers in Maine. They were good friends in Woburn and James sponsored John's petition to the General Court in February 1700/01 to reimburse expenses for using his personal horse during the campaign.

vi. Edward CONVERS⁽³¹⁰⁾ was born on 27 Feb 1654/55 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA. He died on 28 Oct 1691 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA. Edward first married 5 Nov 1684, Sarah Stone (b.5 Feb 1660/1), married second ---- Hill.
vii. Rebecca CONVERS was born on 15 May 1651 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA.
viii. Mary CONVERS⁽¹⁹⁴⁾ was born on 29 Dec 1656 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA. Mary married Sgt. Jacob French at Bellerica, 30 June 1685.
ix. Abigail CONVERS was born on 13 Oct 1658 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA.
x. Ruth CONVERS was born on 12 Feb 1661 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA.
