18. Lyman Dutcher PHELPS * (45) (46)(47) was born on 10 Oct 1808 in Phelps, Ontario Co., NY. He died on 22 Jan 1890 in Kuckville, Orleans Co., NY.(48) Copy of Death Cerificate #3905 in file. Death occured at approx. 11:15 pm. Age at time of death, 81 years, 3 months, 12 days. Length of illness was 6 years. Information supplied by Frank A. Phelps, youngest son of Lyman. He was buried on 26 Jan 1890 in Carlton Cemetery, Orleans Co., NY. Church records of Rev. E. J. Whiting indicate funeral date and burial location. Lyman and Sophronia were natives of Monroe County and settled in Carlton, Orleans County in 1841. Land Records of Orleans County (LDS FHLibrary MF0590832), shows Lyman D. as grantee and Mathius Brown as grantor of 14-1/3 acres (Bk 34, Pg 166), and 16 acres (Bk 45, Pg 478), of land in 1850 and 1856. He was a Cooper by trade.

1850 Federal Census for Orleans County, NY, shows Lyman, age 42, a cooper, and Sophronia, age 41, living in Carlton (near Kuckville). Their children listed with them are: Matilda , age 18; Lovina, age 16; Susan, age 12; Harriet, age 3 and Edwin, age 7 months. Also living with them is Josiah Phelps, age 75, b.CT (unknown relationship); and John Keating, age 50, a cooper from Ireland. He was married to Sophronia A. WRIGHT * about 1831. 1869 Orleans County Directory (LDS Lib Call 974.791E5c), shows Lyman and family living on Lot 11 (S9-R2), Kuckville, as a Cooper.

19. Sophronia A. WRIGHT * was born on 5 Apr 1808 in Monroe Co., NY. She died 25 Jun1902 in Kuckville, Carlton Twp., Orleans Co., NY. She was buried in Carlton Cemetery, Orleans Co., NY. (49) Children were:

child i. Matilda T. PHELPS was born about 1832 in NY. Matilda, age 28, is shown in the 1880 Federal Census for Carlton (Kuckville), Orleans County, as living with her parents.
child ii. Lydia Lovina PHELPS(47) Photo was born on 27 Jul 1834 in Parma, Monroe Co., NY. She died on 7 Dec 1921 in Montrose, Genesee Co., MI.(50) Cause of death is listed as Acute Bronchitis, Vol 6, Part 2 (page 162) , 1920-1923; age at time of death, 87 years/4 months/11 days (recorded 18 Jan 1922). She was buried in Montrose Cemetery. Lydia's younger sister Susan married Almeron's younger brother Valentine. Lydia's middle name has been spelled many ways but the one used most often is Lovina. She must have used Lovina instead of Lydia as it is the name used most often.

OBITUARY: (believed from Flint Journal), "Mrs. Lydia Lavina Wilson died Wednesday morning December 7, [1921] at the farm of her son George, west and north of Montrose, at the advanced age of 87 years, 9 months and 10 days [differs with recorded death certificate]. Acute bronchitis was the cause of death, from which she had been ill for the past four weeks. Lydia L. Phelps was born in Orleans County, N.Y., where she grew to womanhood. March 17, 1852, she was united with Almeron C. Wilson of Kuckville, N.Y., where they resided for some time and in 1880 they came to Michigan and settled in Crawford County, and 8 years later they came to Montrose and settled on the farm where her death occurred. Mr. Wilson died 7 years ago. Thirteen children were born to this union, of whom ten survive as follows: Mrs. Ida M. Anderson of Richvale, Cal., Mrs. Catherine L. Robbins of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Grace S. Mott of Medina, N.Y., Mrs. Hattie M. Green of Flint, Mich., Edward of Whitewood, S.D., Reuben V. of Hastings, Mich., Grant of Dimondale, Mich., Carl of Flint, and Clarence and George of Montrose. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock from her late home, and conducted by Evangelist James Hamilton of Alma, Mich. Interment was made in the Montrose Cemetery."

child iv. Harriet E. PHELPS was born on 6 Dec 1847 in Monroe Co., NY. She died on 11 Jan 1937 in Wayne Co., NY. She was buried in Carlton Cemetery, Orleans Co., NY. Listed in the Carlton Cemetery records next to Julian Henry Fuller but no burial site shown.
child v. Lyman Edwin PHELPS was born about Jan 1850 in Carlton, Orleans Co., NY. Lyman Edwin is shown on the 1850 Census living with his parents, age 7 months.
child vi. Frank Almeron PHELPS(51) was born on 3 Aug 1855 in Carlton, Orleans Co., NY. Frank and Anna had one child, a girl. The farm grew to 32 acres in later years. He was employed by the government for a number of years and served as Constable of Carlton for two years.
