"I got the idea for this cross stitch from Grace's - I wanted to do the same thing, but use a lot more sprites. From the time I made the pattern until finish is probably 1 1/2 - 2 years, there were spells of weeks when I didn't pick it up.
"The treasure chests at the top were an afterthought (the left has gold and silver beads, the right multi-coloured plastic beads that are supposed to look like jewels), as well as Kefka and Ultros, and the magicite border on the sides. The only sprite I altered was Ramuh - I thought it would look cool if I used pale yellow gold thread to spiral up his staff and make it stand out more.
"I used cotton floss for all of the cross stitch except for the logo - there I used Kreinik Metallics Blending Filament in two shades of blue - although it's not apparent from the picture I took, I put a stripe of lighter blue across the letters to create a 3-d metallic logo effect. You are supposed to use regular thread with the filament, but instead I just pulled out the core threads so it was like cross stitching with tiny ribbon. Another thing that isn't very visible in the picture is the reins on the chocobos - I pulled a few strands of brown thread through the back, attached a small bronze coloured ring to it, and pulled it back in, then pulled a small loop of thread coming out of Terra and Locke's hands. It looks really great up close.
"This was a super fun cross stitch, and I plan to do some of the character icons from the status screen of the game, and put each in a circular small frame, and surround the main cross stitch on the wall with them. If I get access to a better camera or a scanner, I will do some better pics so you can see the detail of the logo, treasure chests, and reins. Oh, and I used 22-count Aida cloth in white."
