"No
Matter how little money and how few possessions, you own, having a dog makes you
rich."
Meet Toot. Also known as Mr. Toot Toot. That was his racing name. Toot is an ex-racer--now retired and living in Spotsylvania, Virginia. Toot was born on August 29, 1994 (what a coincidence that his new Daddy has a birthday on the same day in August!) Toot is a descendent of the great Hall of Famer, Dutch Bahama. Toot is one of his great grandsons. Toot's parents are Uncle Albert and Dee's Pearl. Not very
many greyhound owners are lucky enough to have pictures of their retired racer
as a puppy. The original owners of Toot and Toot's mother were gracious
enough to send me these. They are very special to me, I hope you like
them. [Click on the pictures to see a larger view, use your browser BACK to return to this page] Toot had an exceptional racing career. He raced until he was 5 1/2 years old. That's pretty good for a racing greyhound. Toot was a Stakes Racer also. That means he was REALLY good. But, as all good things must come to an end, Toot was ready for the life of retirement. Toot was waiting at the Greyhound Pets of America Kennel at Wheeling Downs, West Virginia. Finally, the adoption application came through for a family that would be the perfect retirement home for Toot. Lucky for us GPA of Northern Virginia has great people who can match up greyhounds and loving families. We were picked as Toot's new adoptive family. Unless you have already adopted a greyhound, you have no idea what a wonderful feeling that is. December 11, 1999 we would be picking up Toot. Well, the day just couldn't come fast enough. But it finally came. The anticipation was almost more than I could bear. As we walked in the volunteer's house we were greeted by her two greyhounds. I couldn't wait any longer. Toot was brought out and the tears started. What a beautiful boy! I have said those four words everyday since then. "Money will buy you a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail.."-- Henry Wheeler Shaw Toot has been a joy since day one. He is very confident, not spooky in the least. He's a horder. Lines shoes up in his crate and brings folded laundry down from the bedrooms and stashes that in his crate also. It's amazing how the clothes are still neatly folded! This group of pictures shows
all the firsts Toot learned about. He's playing with a stuffie for the
first time and he's able to snuggle up for a nap with his new 'brothers' for the
first time. Being retire can be a trying experience at first.
Toot learned the ropes quickly. One more
picture. This is Toot doing his new job. He's making sure that
pillow doesn't jump off the couch! He's the best "pillow-holder-downer" I
know...and he gets rewarded greatly! Make sure you visit the 'TRUST' page. "He
is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his
love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his
heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." |
