The Lady's Ward
Every
main street of the Lady's Ward is cold, broad and echoing. The ward is little
more like the rest of the city; here, the street life is missing, because
too many folks are afraid of the Hardheads
and the Red Death.
The alleys are full of sharp corners and lights shining from recessed windows.
In the squares of the ward there are a half-dozen of public clock towers that
run from peak to antipeak and viceversa.
The Lady of Pain doesn't live here more than anywhere else, and this ward
has her name because She keeps her tools here: the City
Barracks, the Court,
the Prison and the Armory.
These are the buildings that represent and define her power and enforce her
will.
Here live the hidden rulers and shadow lords of Sigil, the knights of the Ward. They are organized and keep a relative peace among themselves to better their profits. The so called Noble District is where the knights of The Lady's Ward live in their palaces, the High Houses. The Noble District is bounded by Portal Close, Harmonium Street and Lords' Row. The great majority of the High Houses are private and extremely well guarded and few cutters know what goes behind their doors (some says necromancy, arcane rituals, intrigue, treachery) and what wonderful treasures are kept in their cellars.
The
Ward is also home of many of the temples of Sigil. Here a basher can visit
temples dedicated to Ptah, Opener of the Ways, to Io the Dragon King and Brahman
the Creator. Most powers of travelers and wandering have their temples and
proxies here: Muamman Duathal, the dwarf wanderer, Diancastra of the giants
and titans and Zivlyn of Krynn, to name some of them. Their temples are elaborate
buildings, richly decorated.
Not only the great creators and the gods of traveling have their proxies'
cases in this ward. There are also proxies of powerful pantheons' leaders,
like those of Shang-ti, of The Lords of the Nine (rulers of the layers of
Baator), of Odin, of Garl Glittergold,
of Primus and of Zeus.
