Teens-At-Risk Program

The Plan

To provide an experiential education program where in life skills activities are interwoven with classroom instruction.

The format is designed to fit each individual student, stimulating them to acquire knowledge and prepare them for future vocation.

The academic day will consist of three to four hours of formal classroom instruction and is intended to prepare each student for completion of his/her G.E.D..

This scholastic program will provide the structure and consistency necessary for effective learning, with the flexibility to allow each student to excel in his/her own areas of interest.

The Resources

We have individual computer learning stations as well as excellent visual aids. The curriculum will consist of units in science, covering earth science, chemistry, biology, and physics; (including hands on experiments and projects)

The units in math covering general review of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percents, plus covering the subjects of Algebra 1, 11. Geometry, Trigonometry, and Pre Calculus.

The units in social studies including American History, US and MO Constitution, Founding fathers, the Ancient Civilizations of Greece, Roam, Byzantine, Mayan, and units in geography.

Also units in the traditional Language Arts of grammar and written communication plus a vocabulary unit on Greek and Latin root words.

DAILY ACTIVITIES

Students will engage in all phases of kennel care and maintenance along with quality play time, bonding and relating to each other. Effective training of a Service Dog requires developing a relationship by feeding, watering, cleaning, and grooming the dog as well as bonding through exercise and quality playtime. By doing this as a part of a daily routine the dog in training will be ready to acknowledge you as their leader and willing to work at your command. Scheduled routines at the same time daily give these gentle canines security and teaches them discipline for their future placement in support and service.

THE EXECUTION

Part of these units are on computer software that not only teaches, but animates the lessons, tests, and tracts the progress of the individuals using it as well as prints a hard copy of the results.

This leaves the teacher free to prepare the student's lessons, grade, keep records and portfolios of the individual students as well as tutoring in weak areas, and some actual classroom teaching per day. The program is set to run two or more lessons simultaneously.

The Results

The units are separeated into four major divisions:

Social Studies
Language Arts
Science
Math

When the units in each basic division are finished, the
individual  will prepare to pass their GED.

This is truly an Individual Education Program or EIP which will be
monitored daily and changed as needed to meet the needs of each
student. Students activities will be recorded daily and student progress
will be discussed during weekly teacher/student conferences.

This curriculum meets all State and Federal guidelines.
