I was in 2nd plt. I was an E5 shake'n bake. I think I remember you but our platoons did not cross too much. My nickname was Starlight if that rings a bell. I thought I remembered an LT who triggered a booby trap that didn't go off, but then I didn't re ember your return. My recollection from the rumor mill was that an infection had set in and caused you to lose a leg. If you stayed in longer I hope rumor was not true. I could not view your site about your 2nd wound. You might be able to find some of the E5s you were with in the NCOC locator. I do remember Top Tufts and the incident you described. I was nice reading your story. For me, after my tour I became an actuary and have remained in Milwaukee for approx 30 yrs. Jim

I was a NCOC honor graduate(SSG) at Ft Benning in 1970. Pres.Jimmy Carter(he was a senator then) offered me an appointment to the Naval Academy in the fall of 1968 but guess I preferred the mud, heat and mosquitos. I turned down OCS as my scheduled cla s starting date was so long after AIT. Got volunteered into NCOC an the rest is history. Upon DEROS I enlisted in GA National Guard while going to college. Got direct commission to 2nd LT but eventually gave that up too. Welcome Home! Lonnie

I enjoyed your site very much. I found that we think alike on a lot of subjects. I too was wounded twice, am proud that I served. I retired in 85 at the rank of CW2, but was a buck sgt in the Nam. And I also wanted to, but couldn't talk to my sons abo t the war. My one sobn died last year, so I decided to write a book for my remaining sons and my one grand son. It's good to see people proud of their service, and remember the past. I also look at the experience as a growing and learning adventure. I learned a lot about myself and others. I don't like conflict, but I wouldn't change my past, now that is over, it b comes an accomplishment that not everyone has. No matter what are beliefs are we did what we had to and added to the long history of each unit that was active. My unit doesn't exist anymore. I wrote to the National Archives, after I left it was combined w th another and in Nam at the end everything was burned. We were the last of the small signal units that did it all, built towers, remote sites and provided our own security on mobil test shots. So if you hear of anyone from the 518th. Signal Co., please give them my email. Thanks for sharing your experience with us all. Tom

I was in Nam originally as part of the NATO "peacekeeping" forces. I did 2 tours - wounded once (no record because it happened in Cambodia where we never were) mainly working the river patrols. Not a good time in my life. Went over with twelve high sch ol buddies - lost three, six of us wounded. A time I'll never forget. I guess I was lucky - I lived through it and I finished my enlistment before the fighting really heated up. None-the-less, I'm proud to be an American. I'm just sorry more people don t respect the country I layed down my life for.

Saw your picts of the bridge over the Son Bo,,we pulled bushes up and down the Son Bo in late 69,the seabees were building the bridge at the time,,it had been blown,,used to be a tower there,,think I have some picts of it..anyway,,great page
