  1. The body of Tsar Alexander III at his funeral on November 11, 1894.   His death on November 1, 1894, dampened the spirits during Nicholas and Alexandra's hasty wedding days later, on the Dowager Empress Maria's birthday.

  2. A portrait of the new Tsaritsa of Russia, Alexandra Feodorovna, c. 1894.   "Alix" is dressed in dark colors and gazes pensively downward - her trademark expression.

  3. A postcard distributed in Russia, showing an engagement or wedding portrait of Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich and Princess Alix of Hesse-Darmstadt.   1894.

  4. A formal wedding photograph of Nicholas & Alexandra, who looks quite somber, even for the camera.  1894.

  5. The former princess Alix, now Empress Alexandra, looking at a book.  This is from the same 'set' as #2.  Circa 1894.

  6. An undated, candid photograph of Alix (Alexandra), writing letters in a decidedly Victorian room.  Judging by her appearance, the photograph was either taken early in her marriage or up to a year before.

  7. Alexandra's sister, "Ella," the Grand Duchess Elizaveta Feodorovna, 1894.  Ella, a beautiful woman who disagreed with her sister on some topics, had married Grand Duke Sergei in 1884, prompting the first meeting between the princess and the tsarevich.

  8. Queen Victoria of Great Britain, Alix's grandmother.

  9. Tsaritsa Alexandra Feodorovna in formal court dress - tiara, robe, pearls, dress, Order of St. Andrew, and elegant fan.  Taken in 1896, this photograph was most likely taken in commemoration of the official coronation.
