After his father's death, Michael bought most of the family's farm from the estate. Michael lived all his life in Clinton County. The immediate cause of his death was heart trouble and he had been in failing health for several months.

His granddaughter Mary (Boysen) Carey remembered that they were visiting her grandparents for his birthday in 1929 when he died after midnight on Dec. 4.

In 1925, Michael owned 240 acres in Section 23 and 120 acres in Section 25 of Washington Township.
