Amaziah\footnote{ The name comes from the Bible (2 Kings 14): Amaziah was a king of Judah for 29 years. He began his reign at the age of 25 and tried to do that which was right in the sight of God, but did not please God as King David had in the beginning of his reign.} was captured by the Indians in Virginia when he was five years of age and carried into the wilderness to Paint Valley, which is located in what is now Ross Co. OH. Ten years later he was discovered by some Indian traders. His father was notified of his discovery and an attempt was made to recover him. The father made various offers for his release, but without avail. By his own will Amaziah remained with his captors, married an Indian woman and reared three daughters. He was killed as a chief fighting with the Indians in St. Clair's defeat.

Since some children of Amaziah's brother Adonijah later settle in Ross County, Ohio, I wonder if the fact that Amaziah was taken there had anything to it?
