Joseph was in the War of 1812. In 1812 he was a Private in Capt. Henley Roberts' Company, Regiment Kentucky Militia. He appears on the Company Muster Roll Sept. 10, 1814.

He moved to Rush County, Indiana with his brother John for a while, but Joseph returned to Kentucky.
