His tombstone reads, ``Richard son of J. & Mary Reed, died July 25, 1883 age 22yrs, 8ms, 13ds.'' He's listed as age 11 in the 1870 census, and 21 in 1880. I've computed the birthdate here from the age at death.

Richard and his brother Thomas died within a few months of each other. The ages of both of them were shown a little older in the census than what their tombstone inscriptions show.
