Hunting
The
majority of the hunting packages at our facility are
combination hunts and fishing trips. Bear hunting is
usually combined with duck/upland bird hunting or deer
hunting and fishing is still the mainstay of our package.
All hunting is American plan and includes all meals,
guides, shore lunches, etc. All trips can be tailored
to individual requests, combinations, and time frames
are all flexible. The Average cost is $1200-$1500 US
per package.
Black
Bear Hunting (Fall Hunting Only)
Our
hunting occurs late in the season. Although the season
starts August 15th, the hair on the bear
is still too thin to become a quality rug and head mounts
will be hide visible without complete hair coverage
around the eyes. This usually will not occur until the
latter part of September in most years.
All
bear hunting is guided hunting only and occurs along
the English River Watershed. In the past few years,
for gun hunting, we have found that driving the bear
off of points has worked well for our hunters. Due to
oakmast crops on the points, we find a fair number of
bears foraging in these areas. For bow hunting, we use
baits and tree stands. All the bait structures are pre-baited
for 2-6 weeks prior to hunting. For black bear hunting,
we will take a maximum of 8 hunters per year, so book
early to avoid disappointment.
Duck
Hunting
In
the years that there are natural wild rice crops, the
duck hunting along the river can be phenomenal, but
if the early season water is too high, there is no rice
and duck and goose hunting is negligible at best. I
do not accept hunters in the years that no rice is available.
Our hunters are contacted around July to verify rice
crops and if the rice is there, we hunt. I not, we recommend
they find an alternative site.
Whitetail
Deer
In
2000, we got into the hunting of whitetail deer. Their
numbers had been down for years and about 5 years ago,
the deer started coming back. As is often the case,
repopulation has been exceptional and the quality of
the animal is good-excellent.
