Feb. 24, 2001 - Coach Matt Doherty has been named one of the 20 finalists for the Naismith College Basketball National Coach of the Year.
Feb. 12, 2001 - Senior Brendan Haywood and Sophomore Joseph Forte have been named finalists for the 2001 Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award. Out of the 15 players chosen nationwide, 5 were from the ACC. The other three were Shane Battier, Jason Williams, and Terrence Morris.
Feb. 5, 2001 - The Tar Heels were #1 in the AP Poll, giving them a clean sweep at the number one spot. The rest of the top five were Stanford, Duke, Michigan State and Kansas.
Feb. 4, 2001 - The Tar Heels are now #1 in the country. In the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, the Heels took the top spot after Stanford, now #2, fell to UCLA. Rounding out the top five were Duke, Michigan State and Kansas. The AP Poll will be released tomorrow. |
